David Harris: Announces retirement from NFL
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris announced his retirement from the NFL on Friday, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reports.

Prior to his surprising release last summer, Harris was a consistent force in the middle of the Jets' defense for years after the team traded up to select the Michigan product in the second round of the 2007 draft. He ultimately racked up the second-most tackles in Jets history (1,087) during his 10 seasons with Gang Green and goes down as one of the team's all-time great defenders despite being perennially underrated by the media. Factoring in his one-year stint in New England, Harris will finish his career with 1,109 tackles, 36.5 sacks, six interceptions and 11 forced fumbles over 164 career games.

Patriots' David Harris: Records 1.5 sacks Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris compiled four tackles (two solo) and 1.5 sacks against the Bills on Sunday.

This was the first full sack Harris has recorded since the 2015 season. Although he's listed as the top middle linebacker, Harris logged just 25 defensive snaps (37 percent). It was a decent showing for Harris, but until he can play a full workload, it'll be tough to become a top IDP threat.

Patriots' David Harris: Inactive Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Jets, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.

One of multiple veterans purged from the rebuilding Jets roster in the offseason, Harris landed in New England on a two-year contract. The 33-year-old was expected to vie for a starting role, but with the Patriots settling on Dont'a Hightower, Kyle Van Noy and Elandon Roberts as their three linebackers, Harris hasn't been able to see regular action. Harris played just seven defensive snaps in the Patriots' first three games, and since he doesn't offer much value on special teams, the Patriots have since made him inactive in two of the past three weeks. Unless an injury to one of the aforementioned players opens up an opportunity, Harris' relevance in IDP formats appears to be over.

David Harris: Signing with Patriots
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris is signing a two-year deal with the Patriots, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.

Released in early June as part of the Jets' offseason purge, the 33-year-old Harris will stay in the AFC East and help his former team's chief rival fill a major need next to Dont'a Hightower in the linebacking corps. Harris had at least 75 tackles in each of his 10 seasons with the Jets, falling shy of the century mark last season (95 in 15 games) for the first time since 2011. His days as a valuable IDP likely are a thing of the past, but he should help the New England run defense while also providing an occasional pass-rushing threat (35.5 career sacks).

David Harris: To be released
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris is being released by the Jets, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.

Harris' tenure with the Jets comes to an end after 10 seasons, as he is the latest of a handful of veterans being released by the team this offseason. A second-round draft pick from Michigan, Harris was the backbone of the Jets' defense for several years, notching 1,088 tackles and 35.5 sacks during his 10 seasons in New York, missing only six games during that span. While the Jets are opting to get younger, Harris should attract the attention of several teams around the league looking to bolster their linebacking corps. At 33, it seems like the veteran still has something left in the tank, but he will likely need to take a major pay cut if he hopes to continue his career elsewhere.

Jets' David Harris: Notches 11 stops in Week 12
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris posted 11 tackles Sunday against the Patriots.

Harris failed to surpass six tackles in any of his first eight games to start the season, but he's now recorded 11 in each of his last two games. The 32-year-old has been a tackling machine for years, and it appears that he's back on track, making him an excellent player to add in IDP leagues.

Jets' David Harris: Full participant in practice Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (hamstring) was a full participant in Thursday's practice.

Harris was back on the field as a full participant after injuring his hamstring in Week 5. The veteran appears likely to take the field against the Ravens, but could see his reps monitored due to the injury. If that is the case, expect Bruce Carter to see some expanded reps this Sunday.

Jets' David Harris: Returns to practice
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (hamstring) was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice, ESPN reports.

Harris suffered a hamstring injury in Week 5 and hadn't practiced since, also missing Monday's game against the Cardinals. Now back at practice, it seems he may have a chance of suiting up this week.

Jets' David Harris: Inactive Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (hamstring) has been ruled inactive for Monday night's matchup with the Cardinals.

This status is unsurprising considering Harris was downgraded to doubtful over the weekend, but it is still notable considering it is his first inactive since Week 13 of 2008. His streak of 121 consecutive starts is now over. Bruce Carter figures to fill in for the veteran at inside linebacker.

Jets' David Harris: Downgraded to doubtful
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (hamstring) is doubtful for Monday's game against the Cardinals, Rich Cimini of ESPN reports.

Harris was held out of practice all week and is likely to see his streak of 121 consecutive games played come to an end. Bruce Carter and Darron Lee figure to see extra reps if Harris is held out.

Jets' David Harris: Status in question for MNF
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (hamstring) missed practice again Friday and is questionable to play against the Cardinals on Monday night, ESPN reports.

Harris went down last week against the Steelers and doesn't look likely to suit up, placing his streak of 121 consecutive games played -- which dates back to 2008 -- in jeopardy.

Jets' David Harris: Held out Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday.

Harris had an MRI on his hamstring after injurying it against the Steelers Sunday, but it came back negative. The specifics of his injury remain unclear and if he's unable to return to practice later this week his status won't bode well for the team's Monday night tilt against Arizona.

Jets' David Harris: Undergoes MRI
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (hamstring) underwent an MRI following Sunday's game against the Steelers, according to coach Todd Bowles.

Harris' testing revealed "nothing negative," according to Bowles, who also said it's too early to tell whether he'd be ready to play by next Monday's game against the Cardinals, ESPN's Rich Cimini reports. As a result, the veteran's progress as the week unfolds should be of importance to the Jets defense, which figures to hand more reps to Darron Lee and Bruce Carter if Harris' involvement is restricted.

Jets' David Harris: Will not return
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (hamstring) will not return to the game, according to NJ.com.

This is not surprising, as Harris was considered doubtful to return upon going down. Darron Lee and Bruce Carter will combine to replace him in nearly all packages.

Jets' David Harris: Doubtful to return
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris suffered a hamstring injury against the Steelers on Sunday and is doubtful to return, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reports.

It doesn't appear Harris has a legitimate chance to return. Bruce Carter and rookie Darron Lee will pick up the slack in his stead.

Jets' David Harris: Active for Sunday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (shoulder) is expected to be active for Week 3's matchup with the Chiefs, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.

Harris was listed as questionable heading into the game after being limited in practice all week due to shoulder injury he suffered in Week 2's win over the Bills. The veteran could be closely monitored due to the injury, meaning Bruce Carter could see extra reps in Sunday's contest.

Jets' David Harris: Questionable Week 3
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (shoulder) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against Kansas City.

Harris was limited in practice all week after playing through the injury in last week's contest. Given that he's played through the issue in the past, it seem's likely that he'll play once again.

Jets' David Harris: Limited Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (shoulder) was limited at practice Wednesday.

Harris recorded five tackles (four solo) during last Thursday's win over the Bills after being limited in practice beforehand, leaving optimism for his status heading into Sunday's contest against the Chiefs.

Jets' David Harris: Active for Thursday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (shoulder) is active for the Jets' Week 2 contest against Buffalo.

Harris was unable to practice fully during the week but the shoulder injury didn't prove enough to keep him out. He had four tackles and a pass defensed against the Bengals in Week 1, and he's a player that should be considered in IDP leagues.

Jets' David Harris: Questionable for Thursday's game
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Harris (shoulder) was limited at practice Wednesday and is considered questionable for Thursday's game against the Bills.

Harris notched four tackles against the Bengals in their Week 1 matchup after being limited in practice all of last week as well, so he could be good to go for game action once again Thursday. Fellow inside linebacker Bruce Carter (shoulder) is also questionable, so Harris will likely make a push to get back on the field.
