Top Buccaneers News

  • Buccaneers' Ted Hurst: Zero targets on TNF

Hurst did not record a target during the Buccaneers' 24-16 win over the Cowboys on Thursday.

Hurst saw at least three targets in each of the first four games of the regular season, but he did not see a pass from Jalon Daniels during Thursday's game, and the former's 33 offensive snaps were a distant third among Bucs wideouts behind Emeka Egbuka (64) and Chris Godwin (63). Hurst will take an 8-128-1 receiving line (16 targets) into Tampa Bay's Week 6 home game against Pittsburgh, and for now, it looks like Daniels will remain as the starter while Baker Mayfield (thumb) continues to recover from his injury.

  • Buccaneers' Tez Johnson: Hauls in 64-yard pass vs. Dallas

Johnson caught his lone target for 64 yards during Thursday's 24-16 win over the Cowboys.

Johnson took advantage of the Cowboys' lapse in the secondary, with the second-year wideout on the receiving end of a deep ball from Jalon Daniels that the former turned into a 64-yard catch that led to a one-yard touchdown run by Bucky Irving three plays later. It was Johnson's second catch of 40-plus yards this season and third since entering the league in 2025 as a seventh-round draft pick. It's hard to rely on consistent production from the Bucs' pass catchers while Daniels is under center instead of Baker Mayfield (thumb), though Johnson is capable of having occasional big plays.

  • Buccaneers' Sean Tucker: Fails to score goal-line TD

Tucker turned five carries into 18 yards during the Buccaneers' 24-16 win over the Cowboys on Thursday.

Four of Tucker's five carries came during the Buccaneers' offensive drive that spanned the late third quarter and into the fourth. He was given a goal-line rushing opportunity, but he was stuffed by the Cowboys' defense before crossing the plane on fourth-and-1, which prevented him from logging a rushing touchdown in back-to-back games. Tucker is firmly entrenched as the Bucs' RB3 but would stand to benefit from an increased snap count if one or both of Bucky Irving or Kenny Gainwell were to miss time. Fresh off their first win of the season, the Buccaneers will look to make it two victories in a row in Week 6 against the Steelers on Sunday, Oct. 18.

  • Buccaneers' Cade Otton: Logs three catches in victory Thursday night

Otton caught three of four targets for 25 yards in a 24-16 win over Dallas on Thursday.

Otton was active early, catching two passes on the Buccaneers' first drive. However, he logged only two more targets and one more reception -- an 11-yarder that helped set up a field goal in the third quarter -- the rest of the way. The 25 total yards were a low mark so far this season for the veteran tight end, who has caught between three and five passes in all five of Tampa Bay's games so far. That at least gives him a reliable floor, but Otton doesn't have a very high week-to-week fantasy ceiling.

  • Buccaneers' Jalon Daniels: Expected to start Week 6

Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles said Friday that he plans on starting Daniels in Week 6 against Pittsburgh, Scott Smith reports.

Bowles used a "right now" qualifier, so he wasn't exactly committing to Daniels over Baker Mayfield (thumb) in Week 6. The decision mostly comes down to Mayfield's health, but the Bucs could also opt to be more cautious after seeing Daniels keep a run-first offense afloat the past two games.

  • Buccaneers' Baker Mayfield: May progress to gripping ball next week

Head coach Todd Bowles said Friday that Mayfield (thumb) is now in a smaller splint, and the Bucs will see if he can progress to gripping the football next week, Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Bowles admitted the "plan" is for Jalon Daniels to start next Sunday against the Steelers after the rookie quarterback helped lead the Bucs to their first victory in a stunning upset of the Cowboys on Thursday night. Mayfield has missed two games and was initially given a recovery timetable of 3-to-6 weeks, so he appears to be progressing normally with his dislocated thumb.

  • Buccaneers' Kenny Gainwell: Seven total touches in Week 5 win

Gainwell rushed four times for 18 yards and brought in three of four targets for 10 yards in the Buccaneers' 24-16 win over the Cowboys on Thursday night.

Gainwell logged his highest carry total since Week 1 and parlayed it into a new season high in rushing yards. The veteran change-of-pace back also tied his season best in receptions and recorded multiple catches for the fourth straight game, but over his first five contests in Tampa Bay, Gainwell's overall role is markedly less robust than the one he filled during his lone Steelers season in 2025. As such, his fantasy value is undeniably capped heading into a Week 5 home matchup against Pittsburgh on Sunday, Oct. 18.

  • Buccaneers' Chase McLaughlin: Perfect on four kicks Thursday

McLaughlin made his only field-goal attempt and all three extra-point tries Thursday in a 24-16 win against Dallas.

McLaughlin made all three of his PAT tries before nailing a 41-yard field goal late in the third quarter. He could have had an additional chip-shot FG midway through the fourth, but the Buccaneers somewhat surprisingly tried (and failed) to get into the end zone on a fourth-and-goal play from the 1-yard line when a field goal would have given them a three-score lead. Regardless, McLaughlin looked fine after missing practice Tuesday with a right groin/hip issue, and he's now a perfect 10-for-10 on field-goal attempts this season.

  • Buccaneers' Jalon Daniels: Notable improvement in second start

Daniels completed 19 of 25 passes for 189 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions while rushing seven times for 23 yards in the Buccaneers' 24-16 win over the Cowboys on Thursday night.

Daniels didn't have the luxury of a normal practice week after making his starting debut in a Week 4 home loss to the Packers, but the undrafted rookie from Kansas looked like a significantly improved player just four days later on the road. Daniels commanded the Buccaneers offense with poise throughout the night, spreading the ball around to seven different targets and remaining free of turnovers after throwing a pair of interceptions against Green Bay. Daniels also connected with Bucky Irving for a five-yard touchdown pass to open the second quarter, his second career scoring toss. With some valuable experience now under his belt, Daniels will have some additional time to prepare for a Week 6 home matchup against the Steelers on Sunday, Oct. 18.
