Clutterbuck (shoulder) expects to be ready for the start of the 2022-23 campaign, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Clutterbuck is set to undergo surgery on his injured shoulder, but he'll evidently have enough time to make a full recovery in time for next season's Opening Night. The 34-year-old vet picked up 15 points and a whopping 229 hits through 59 games this campaign.

Clutterbuck (undisclosed) won't play Tuesday against the Senators, Brian Compton of reports. • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Inks two-year extension

Clutterbuck put pen to paper on a two-year, $3.5 million contract extension with the Islanders on Monday. Clutterbuck is in his ninth season with the Islanders and will extend his 15-year NHL career another two years. The veteran winger is offensively limited but should still be capable of producing between 15-25 points in a fourth-line role. As such, Clutterbuck figures to remain a mid-range fantasy opinion at best.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Not playing Sunday

Clutterbuck (maintenance) is not in the lineup Sunday against Philadelphia and is day-to-day. With the trade deadline looming Monday afternoon, there's always the chance Clutterbuck is being held out due to a potential trade. Nonetheless, look for another update regarding his status ahead of Tuesday's game against Ottawa.

Clutterbuck scored an empty-net goal on two shots in Friday's 5-2 win over the Jets. The Jets pulled their goalie early and Clutterbuck cashed in the empty-netter at 15:16 of the third period. It was the winger's first tally since his two-goal game Dec. 16 versus the Bruins -- he went 29 contests without lighting the lamp. The fourth-liner has 14 points, 71 shots, 213 hits and a minus-6 rating in 55 appearances overall.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Snaps point drought with assist

Clutterbuck registered an assist and three hits in Sunday's 4-0 win over the Ducks. Clutterbuck earned the secondary helper on linemate Casey Cizikas' second-period marker. This assist snapped an eight-game point drought for Clutterbuck, who remains more of a physical presence than a scoring threat on the Islanders' fourth line. The 34-year-old has 12 points, 63 shots on net, 197 hits and a minus-5 rating through 49 contests overall.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Scoreless in eight straight

Clutterbuck has failed to register a point over his last eight games. Not only has Clutterbuck remained scoreless for those eight games, but he has failed to notch a point in 11 of his last 12 contests. Clutterbuck's name has come up in recent trade rumors. He is in the last year of his contract, and the Islanders' chances of making the playoffs are remote, to put it kindly. Contending teams could use his his grit and tenacity in the playoffs, and the pending free agent to be could always sign back with the Islanders after the season.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Could be on the move

Clutterbuck could be one of the more attractive trade pieces on the Islanders before the deadline, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. Clutterbuck is in the final year of his contract, so an acquiring team wouldn't have to worry about signing him to a new deal unless it wanted to. Clutterbuck won't light up the scoreboard, but he does provide grit and the willingness to do the dirty work that playoff teams are always looking for. The Islanders also would realize that they could acquire draft picks and/or prospects for letting Clutterbuck go this season and then always re-sign him during the offseason if they are so inclined.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Makes impact in top-line turn

Clutterbuck recorded a pair of assists and seven hits in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Canucks. Clutterbuck was promoted to Mathew Barzal's line Wednesday, and the move paid off for head coach Barry Trotz. Clutterbuck's two helpers came on goals by linemates Barzal and Anders Lee in the Islanders' first-period outburst. This will likely be a temporary move for Clutterbuck, who has just 11 points in 40 contests this season. The 34-year-old winger has added 165 hits, 50 shots on net and a minus-1 rating while mainly playing in a bottom-six capacity.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Goalless streak at 11 games

Clutterbuck has now gone 11 straight games without lighting the lamp for the Islanders. Clutterbuck does have four assists over this span and has already surpassed his goal total from last season (4) in just 36 games this season. The Islanders are once again desperate for anyone to light the lamp. Clutterbuck is on pace to score 10+ goals this season, something he hasn't done since the 2015 season. Clutterbuck will next get a chance to score against the Wild on Sunday as the game against the Kraken on Saturday has been moved to Wednesday due to a pending snowstorm on Long Island.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Yet to register assist

Clutterbuck has five goals this season but is the only Islander that has yet to register an assist. The five goals are the most that Clutterbuck has scored in a season since the 2018-19 campaign. The Islanders are in last place in their division but have also played the least games in the NHL. They are scheduled to play 10 of their 11 games before the All-Star break at home. If they don't take advantage of these games and move up dramatically in the standings, players like Clutterbuck, who are in the last year of their contract, could be headed elsewhere by the trade deadline.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Returns to practice

Clutterbuck (COVID-19 protocols) was in attendance for Thursday's practice session after clearing the NHL's protocols. Even with Clutterbuck and Matt Martin available to play against the Sabres on Thursday, the Isles will likely need to add a couple of forwards to the active roster. On the year, the 34-year-old Clutterbuck has notched five goals in 26 contests and could push for the 20-point threshold for the seventh time in his NHL career.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Lands in COVID-19 protocols

Clutterbuck has landed in the league's COVID-19 protocols, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports. The Islanders saw four of their players land on the league's COVID-19 protocols, meaning they will be quite shorthanded when they take on the Red Wings on Dec. 29 -- if the league resumes play, that is. The veteran forward has five goals and no assists so far this season, and it's worth noting he has scored three of those goals this month.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Tickles twine twice Thursday

Clutterbuck scored two goals in Thursday's 3-1 win over the Bruins. He opened the scoring midway through the first period, jumping on a loose puck and wiring it into the top corner past Linus Ullmark, then Clutterbuck iced the game with an empty-netter late in the third. The veteran grinder has only five points in 25 games this season, but all five have been goals.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Snaps drought with shortie

Clutterbuck scored a shorthanded goal on two shots and added four hits in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Red Wings. Clutterbuck tallied just 2:45 into the game, ending his scoreless streak at 13 contests. The 34-year-old now has three goals, 22 shots on net and 80 hits through 19 outings. Outside of toughness and the occasional shorthanded point, there's very little appeal with Clutterbuck in fantasy.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: No points in 11 straight games

Clutterbuck has failed to register a goal or assist in his last 11 games. The Islanders as a team have only scored 16 goals in their last 11 games, so Clutterbuck is far from the only player who is having problems wrinkling the twine.

  • Islanders' Cal Clutterbuck: Scoreless in four straight

Clutterbuck has gone four straight games without registering a point for the Islanders. Clutterbuck only has two points, both goals, on the season and has a rating of plus-1. Clutterbuck is part of the energy line for the Islanders, along with Matt Martin and Casey Cizikas. Their job isn't necessarily to score goals but to wear down an opponent's top line by hitting them early and often. Any offense that this line gives to the Islanders is considered to be a bonus.
