  • Roman Polak: Hired as European scout

Polak will join the Blue Jackets as a European-based amateur scout, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports Wednesday. This marks the official end of Polak's professional career. Polak spent last season playing in his native Czech Republic for Vitkovice HC, for which he garnered eight points in 51 contests. The blueliner spent 14 seasons playing in the NHL for the Blues, Maple Leafs, Sharks and Stars, appearing in 806 games and tallying 140 points.

  • Roman Polak: Not included on camp roster

Polak isn't listed on the Stars' Phase 3 training camp roster, Stephen Whyno of the Associated Press reports. Polak has already agreed to a multi-year contract with Czech club HC Vitkovice for the 2020-21 campaign and beyond, so the fact that he has elected to forego the NHL's Return to Play doesn't exactly come as a surprise. At this point it looks like the 34-year-old blueliner has almost certainly played his last NHL game. If that ends up being the case, he'll finish his NHL career having totaled 26 goals and 140 points in 806 games split between the Blues, Maple Leafs, Sharks and Stars over 14 seasons.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Signs overseas

Polak agreed to terms on a multi-year contract with Czech club HC Vitkovice on Monday. Polak remains under contract for the Stars for the upcoming 24-team playoff and is expected to still report to Dallas for the postseason. The defenseman was a healthy scratch in eight of the final 19 games prior to the league going on hiatus, in which he averaged just 16:16 of ice time and recorded zero points and a minus-6 rating. This likely will mark the end of the 34-year-old's NHL career, which would see him eventually retire having tallied 26 goals and 114 helpers in 806 games for St. Louis, Toronto, San Jose and Dallas.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Available if needed

Polak (personal) returned to practice Friday, NHL.com's Josh Clark reports. Polak missed Thursday's loss to the Predators due to a personal matter, but he'll be available for Saturday's rematch with Nashville. However, Andrej Sekera is currently projected to skate with Jamie Oleksiak on Dallas' third pairing Saturday, so Polak may end up being the odd man out. He's picked up four points in 40 games this campaign.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Doesn't travel to Nashville

Polak won't travel with the team to Nashville for Thursday's game against the Predators due to a personal matter, Sean Shapiro of The Athletic reports. This essentially serves as confirmation that Polak will not take part in Thursday's contest, but there is no indication that the personal matter is expected to hold him out of extended action. There's a good chance he will be back with the team when it returns to Dallas for Saturday's rematch with Nashville.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Still searching for offense

Polak has no points in his last 22 games. During that span, he's sat out six games as a healthy scratch while racking up 60 hits, 44 blocked shots and 22 PIM. Polak will continue to compete with Andrej Sekera and Taylor Fedun for playing time, but none of those three blueliners figure to carry much fantasy value.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Becoming odd man out

Polak has been a healthy scratch in two of the last three games. The Czech blueliner is mired in a 17-game point drought. Polak has seen Stephen Johns muscle him out of the lineup recently. Andrej Sekera has been Polak's recent competition for playing time, but neither of those defensemen warrants any fantasy attention, as both play a mostly defensive style.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Slump persists

Polak has no points in his last 13 games. The Czech blueliner has posted 35 hits, 24 blocked shots and eight PIM in that span. Polak is more of a defensive player anyway, with just four helpers in 31 games this season. He's produced 79 hits and 73 blocks as well, but that production isn't enough to make him useful in most fantasy formats.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Offense fades, defense remains

Polak has no points in his last eight games. In that span, the defenseman has produced 22 hits, 19 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating. Polak rarely gets on the scoresheet -- he has four assists in 26 appearances this season. It's his defensive work that keeps him in the lineup. It's working so far, as the Stars allow just 2.33 goals per game.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Helpers in consecutive outings

Polak recorded an assist and two hits in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Flames. Polak has an assist in each of his last two games, which accounts for exactly half of his offense this season. The 33-year-old blueliner has added 44 hits, 49 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating through 18 contests.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Records assist on equalizer

Polak managed an assist, three hits and two blocked shots in Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Lightning. Polak had the secondary assist on Jason Dickinson's game-tying goal in the third period. Offense remains hard to come by for the veteran blueliner, who only has three helpers through 17 contests. The 33-year-old has added 42 hits and 49 blocked shots.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Provides defensive presence

Polak posted five blocked shots, four hits and two shots on goal in Friday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Golden Knights. Polak hasn't posted a point in his last six games, but he's put up 15 hits and 14 blocks in that span. He's more of a defensive presence in the lineup, with two helpers, 43 blocks and 35 hits in 14 appearances this season. Polak's career high for points is 21, set in 2009-10 with the Blues, but the blueliner hasn't topped 16 points since that campaign.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Produces assist Friday

Polak notched an assist, two shots on goal, three blocked shots and two hits in Friday's 3-1 loss to the Blues. Polak had the secondary helper, setting up a two-on-one sequence that resulted in Roope Hintz converting on a Blake Comeau pass. Polak has posted two helpers, 29 blocks and 20 hits in eight appearances this season. He's more known as a physical presence -- don't expect to see his name on the scoresheet very often.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Tacks on helper

Polak managed an assist, four hits and three blocked shots in Saturday's 5-4 overtime win over the Oilers. Polak collected the secondary assist on Jason Dickinson's opening goal. The defender also provided plenty of his trademark physical play. Polak's helper was his first point in three games, while he's added 11 blocks and seven hits.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Leads team in blocked shots

Polak (upper body) had six blocked shots and a hit in 18:24 during Thursday's 4-2 win over the Canucks. It was the second appearance of the year for the Czech defenseman, who suffered a fractured sternum on Opening Night. Polak marked his return to the lineup in familiar form -- by laying out to prevent the opponent from getting good looks. He's up to eight blocks in two games this year, and the 33-year-old had 152 blocks and 191 hits in 77 contests last season while posting just nine points.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Back in action

Polak (upper body) is expected to be in the lineup for Thursday's game against the Canucks, Matthew DeFranks of The Dallas Morning News reports. Polak came into the contest as a game-time decision, but was trending in the right direction after getting hurt in the first game of the season. The 33-year-old's return signifies a boost in depth on the back end, as Polak will be paired with Andrej Sekera on the third defensive pairing for Thursday's game.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Downgraded for Thursday's game

Polak (upper body) will be a game-time decision for Thursday's game against Vancouver, Matthew DeFranks of The Dallas Morning News reports. Polak was originally expected to be in the lineup for the game, but he will now take warmups before officially playing. He's trying to make his return to action after getting injured in the first game of the season. Expect the definitive word on Polak's status much closer to game time.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Back in action

Polak (upper body) is expected to return to the lineup for Thursday's clash with the Canucks, NHL.com's Kevin Woodley reports. Polak hasn't played since suffering an upper-body injury in the first game of the season, so it wouldn't be surprising to see the Stars limit his ice time against Vancouver. The 33-year-old, who picked up nine points in 77 games with Dallas last campaign, is expected to skate with Taylor Fedun on the bottom pairing against Vancouver.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Trending toward Thursday return

Polak (upper body) won't play Wednesday against the Flames but is expected to return for Thursday's clash against the Canucks, Sean Shapiro of The Athletic reports. After fracturing his sternum during the season opener against Boston, Polak will miss his 18th straight game Wednesday. His return seems imminent, though, and the 33-year-old will likely bump Joel Hanley from the lineup. Polak doesn't provide much fantasy aptitude, but he features a valuable defensive style that produced 191 hits and 152 blocked shots last year.

  • Stars' Roman Polak: Remains out indefinitely

Head coach Jim Montgomery said Polak (upper body) has no timeline for his return to the lineup, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports. Polak suffered a fractured sternum in the Stars' season opener on Oct 3. This latest update suggests that the blueliner will be out indefinitely. Expect Taylor Fedun to remain in the lineup throughout Polak's absence.
