  • Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Cleared but won't play Saturday

Johnson (illness) has been cleared but will serve as a healthy scratch Saturday against St. Louis, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports. Johnson missed Columbus' last game with an illness. While he's healthy Saturday, the veteran blueliner will ultimately miss a second straight contest as a scratch. Johnson has a goal and seven points in 42 games this season.

  • Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Not available Thursday

Johnson (illness) will miss Thursday's tilt against Seattle, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports. Johnson has not been an offensive force this season, as the veteran defenseman has only two assists in 27 games. He could return as early as Saturday in St. Louis. Damon Severson will return to the lineup in place of Johnson on the third pairing, alongside Jake Christiansen.

  • Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Notches assist in win

Johnson logged an assist in Friday's 6-2 win over the Bruins. Johnson has played in seven of the last eight games. The 37-year-old's helper was his first point since Oct. 26 versus the Predators. He has an easier path to staying in the lineup as long as the Blue Jackets keep rolling with seven defensemen, which has worked well for them in recent contests. Overall, Johnson has two helpers, 13 shots on net, 11 hits, 16 blocked shots and a minus-7 rating through 22 outings, so he's not a particularly strong option for fantasy managers.

  • Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Expected to play Thursday

Johnson (eye) is expected to be available for Thursday's game against the Devils, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports. Johnson took a stick to the face Sunday against the Hurricanes and sat out Tuesday against the Lightning, but he should be able to return following a one-game absence. Over 18 appearances this year, he's logged an assist, 12 blocked shots, nine hits and a minus-4 rating while averaging 13:32 of ice time. Dante Fabbro (lower body) is questionable for Thursday's matchup, but Jordan Harris will likely be pushed out of the lineup if Fabbro is also able to suit up against the Devils.

Johnson (eye) won't play Tuesday against the Lightning, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports. • Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Losing playing time

Johnson sat out for the fifth time in six games in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Canadiens. While trade rumors swirl around prospect defenseman David Jiricek, who is in AHL Cleveland, Johnson hasn't been able to claim a regular role with the NHL club. Jake Christiansen and Jordan Harris have held down the third pairing since Dante Fabbro was plucked off waivers from Nashville. Johnson has one assist, eight shots on net, nine hits, 10 blocked shots and a minus-4 rating through 15 appearances this season. The 37-year-old doesn't need to be tracked in fantasy, as he's unlikely to produce enough offense to help.

  • Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Puts up helper

Johnson managed an assist in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Predators. The assist was Johnson's first point in six outings this season. He's played exclusively on the third pairing when he suits up, though he may eventually feel some pressure from David Jiricek for a spot in the lineup. Johnson has added two shots on goal, six hits, four blocked shots, two PIM and a plus-1 rating. He won't make enough of an impact for fantasy.

  • Blue Jackets' Jack Johnson: Returning to Columbus

Johnson signed a one-year, $775,000 contract with the Blue Jackets on Tuesday, per PuckPedia. Johnson had a seven-year stint with the Blue Jackets earlier in his career, which accounted for most of his most successful seasons. At 37 years old, it's unlikely he returns to his former glory on offense. Instead, Johnson will likely serve as a veteran leader for the Blue Jackets' young roster, and he's expected to fill a third-pairing role.

Johnson dished an assist and added two hits in Saturday's 3-2 overtime win over the Oilers. Johnson snapped a six-point drought with the assist on the first of Sean Walker's two goals in the game. The 37-year-old Johnson is seeing steady usage on the Avalanche's third pairing this season. He's up to 15 points, 61 shots on net, 65 hits, 79 blocked shots and a plus-16 rating through 66 appearances. Johnson could reach the 20-point plateau this campaign for the first time since 2016-17.

Johnson didn't practice Sunday because of an illness, Ryan Boulding of NHL.com reports. He has earned three goals, 14 points, 78 blocked shots and 63 hits across 63 appearances this season. If Johnson can't play against the Flames, Caleb Jones could draw into the lineup.

Johnson had an assist, two blocks and three hits in Thursday's 5-0 win over Chicago. Johnson forced a giveaway in the Avalanche's zone to lead a 2-on-1 that ended with Zach Parise scoring Colorado's first goal. Johnson's been uncharacteristically involved on offense of late, posting a goal and four assists over the last six games. His 14 points are the most for Johnson since 2016-17 when he recorded 32 as a member of the Blue Jackets.

  • Avalanche's Jack Johnson: Slips another assist

Johnson had an assist and one hit in Thursday's 2-1 overtime loss to Detroit. Johnson had the secondary helper on Nathan MacKinnon's tally and extended a rare scoring streak to three games. • Avalanche's Jack Johnson: Adds assist in victory

Johnson recorded an assist, two blocks and two hits in Tuesday's 3-1 win over Vancouver. Johnson's shot attempt was off the mark, but the puck bounced off the back boards and Ryan Johansen was in position to backhand it in for Colorado's first goal. It was the third point in two games for Johnson, who is not known for his offense. He's up to 12 points over 55 games, the most he's had since 2018-19.

Johnson showed off rarely seen offense, which included a second-period tally where he attacked from the blue line and beat Karel Vejmelka to the far side for his third goal of the season. The two-point offensive explosion snapped a 14-game pointless drought for the 37-year-old Johnson.

  • Avalanche's Jack Johnson: Scratched Tuesday

Johnson was a healthy scratch for Tuesday's loss to the Devils. The Avalanche called up Sam Malinski on Monday to join them on a post-break road trip. He didn't play in a loss to the Rangers on Monday but he was in the lineup against New Jersey. Rotating Johnson and Malinski appears to be the plan down the stretch, per Evan Rawal of Colorado Hockey Now. The 6-foot-1, 227-pound Johnson is expected to play against the heavier teams. When the Avs aren't expecting a physical game, Malinski may get the call.

Johnson (undisclosed) will be in Friday's lineup against the Kings, per the NHL's media site. Johnson missed Wednesday's game against Washington but will no longer be sidelined. • Avalanche's Jack Johnson: Sitting out Wednesday

Johnson will be held out of Wednesday's matchup with Washington due to a nagging undisclosed injury, Marc Moser of Altitude Sports 950 reports. Johnson previously missed time with a lower-body injury but it's not clear if this persistent problem is related. With the 37-year-old veteran coming out of the lineup, a healthy Bowen Byram (lower body) will play for the first time since Jan. 4 against Dallas. Johnson's lack of offensive upside figures to keep him a relative non-factor in fantasy contests.
