Taormina (undisclosed) was reassigned to AHL Stockton on Tuesday, TSN reports.
Taormina and Rinat Valiev were sent from the Canadiens to the Flames in a trade Monday. He's evidently fit to play since he was officially sent to the AHL's Heat ahead of the new season.

Flames' Matt Taormina: Brought in via trade
Taormina (undisclosed) was acquired by the Flames from the Canadiens -- along with Rinat Valiev -- in exchange for Brett Kulak on Monday.
Taormina has been dealing with an undisclosed issue for much of training camp and figures to be shipped down to AHL Stockton once given the all-clear. The blueliner spent all of 2018-19 in the ECHL, which doesn't bode well for his long-term development.

The severity of Taormina's injury is unknown, but there's no reason for fantasy owners to be concerned with his availability. The 31-year-old blueliner hasn't appeared in an NHL contest since 2015 and will likely spend the entirety of the 2018-19 campaign in the minors.

The 30-year-old blueliner has only appeared in 12 NHL games since the 2012-13 campaign, so he's nothing more than an organizational depth player at this stage in his career. He'll likely spend the entirety of the 2017-18 season in the minors.

Canadiens' Matt Taormina: Signs two-way deal with Montreal
Taormina signed a two-year, two-way deal with the Canadiens on Saturday, the Montreal Gazette reports.
The 30-year-old Taormina spent all of last season with Tampa Bay's affiliate in the American Hockey League, notching 60 points in 70 games for Calder Cup-winning Syracuse. He'll likely bolster the defense for the Laval Rocket during its inaugural season as Montreal's AHL affiliate.

Fellow rearguard Slater Koekkoek was recalled in a corresponding move. Taormina spent just under two weeks with the big club but didn't see any game action while up, so he'll return to the Crunch for further seasoning until the Bolts call his name again.

With Slater Koekkoek heading to the minors Wednesday, the Lightning brought up the 29-year-old Taormina to bolster the blue line. Taormina is an offensive minded defenseman, evidenced by his 41 points in 61 games for Syracuse last season, and could end up spending significant time in the majors now that Koekkoek is out of the picture.

Tampa Bay also reassigned defenseman Slater Koekkoek to AHL Syracuse on Monday, so Taormina will replace him as the team's seventh defenseman on the active roster. The 29-year-old defender led all Syracuse defenseman this season with 31 points and was an AHL All-Star, so the call-up is well warranted.
