Harpur skated 22:36 in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Flyers, contributing one blocked shot, one hit and a plus-1 rating. Harpur customarily plays fewer than 15 minutes per game, but he's been pressed into a much larger role with the cap-strapped Rangers down to five defensemen over the last two games; he played a whopping 28:04 in Sunday's win over the Kings. While Harpur's TOI should remain elevated until the Rangers get Ryan Lindgren (upper body) or K'Andre Miller (suspension) back, his stay-at-home style will likely leave Harpur with limited fantasy utility in most formats.... Rangers' Ben Harpur: Signs two-year extension
Harpur inked a two-year extension with the Rangers on Thursday. Harpur has a goal and three points in 18 contests while averaging 13:23 of ice time this season. He's playing through a one-year, $750,000 contract and was eligible to become an unrestricted free agent this summer before re-signing with the Rangers. New York didn't provide the financial terms of Harpur's new contract, but it comes with a $787,500 annual cap hit, according to TSN's Chris Johnston.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Ben Harpur: Steadying presence on third pair
Harpur totaled two shots and two blocked shots in Thursday's 4-1 win over Montreal. Despite his modest scoring output, Harpur has been a massive upgrade on the third pair opposite Braden Schneider after Libor Hajek and Zac Jones both struggled in that role. While Harpur's two assists and nine shots through 10 games don't jump off the page, the 6-foot-6 blueliner has secured a consistent spot in the lineup, and the Rangers are 7-2-1 when Harpur plays.... Rangers' Ben Harpur: Promoted again
Harpur was recalled from AHL Hartford on Sunday, per CapFriendly. Harpur was called back up after he was sent down Saturday. The 27-year-old blueliner has yet to make his NHL season debut.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Ben Harpur: Sent down
Harpur was assigned to AHL Hartford on Saturday, per CapFriendly. Harpur had been serving as an extra blueliner for the Rangers since being brought up from the minors Dec. 3. He has three goals and two assists in 17 AHL contests this campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Ben Harpur: Recalled from AHL
Harpur was recalled from AHL Hartford on Saturday. Harpur inked a one-year contract five weeks ago and had three goals and five points in 17 AHL games before his promotion. He will be the seventh defenseman for now with the Rangers.... See More ... See Less -
Rangers' Ben Harpur: Signs with Rangers
Harpur has signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Rangers on Thursday. The blueliner is expected to report to AHL Hartford, Arthur Staple of The Athletic reports. Harpur gives the Rangers another depth defenseman. He was on a PTO with Columbus at training camp before the Blue Jackets released him on Oct. 9 and played four games for AHL Hartford before inking the deal with New York. Harpur had one point in 19 games with the Predators last season.... See More ... See Less -
Ben Harpur: Cut loose from PTO
Harpur was released from his professional tryout Sunday by Columbus. Harpur was injured in a fight early in the preseason, which probably didn't help his chances. Still, he was going to be hard-pressed to earn a roster spot with the Blue Jackets regardless.... See More ... See Less -
Blue Jackets' Ben Harpur: Missing Tuesday
Harpur is dealing with an upper-body injury that will exclude him from Tuesday's practice session, Blue Jackets team reporter Jeff Svoboda reports. Harpur is currently on a professional tryout with the Jackets and this injury certainly won't help his chances of securing a permanent deal coming out of camp. Considering the 27-year-old blueliner has just one goal in his six-year NHL career, fantasy players shouldn't be anticipating more than low-end fantasy value out of Harpur even if he does make the Opening Night roster.... Blue Jackets' Ben Harpur: Earns tryout with Columbus
Harpur signed a professional tryout contract with the Blue Jackets on Wednesday, per CapFriendly. Harpur was limited to one assist in 19 games for the Predators last year. The 27-year-old defenseman has never played in more than 51 NHL games in a season, so he's likely competing for a third-pairing job while attending the Blue Jackets' training camp.... See More ... Predators' Ben Harpur: Plays rare game Saturday
Harpur skated 15:47 in Saturday's 8-0 win over the Sharks but failed to register a point. Harpur hasn't played much this season, having missed time due to a combination of being a healthy scratch, playing in the AHL and landing on the NHL's COVID-19 list. He has just one assist to his credit in 12 games this season, so he doesn't move the fantasy needle at all, even when he suits up. Keep Harpur on your league's waiver wire where he belongs.... Predators' Ben Harpur: Removed from COVID-19 list
Harpur cleared COVID-19 protocols Monday. Harpur has appeared in just six games this season and has spent most of the year as a healthy scratch. He could be in Wednesday's lineup against Washington.... See More ... See Less -
Predators' Ben Harpur: Placed on COVID-19 list
Harpur was added to the list of Predators in the NHL's COVID-19 protocols Wednesday. Harpur had played in two games since returning from his conditioning stint with the Predators' AHL affiliate, over which he maintained a plus-2 figure. He'll be eligible to return to his depth role after he clears the protocols, which means two negative tests if he's vaccinated and asymptomatic.... See More ... See Less -
Predators' Ben Harpur: Back from conditioning stint
Harpur was returned from his conditioning assignment with AHL Milwaukee on Monday. Harpur hasn't played for the Predators since Nov. 5 versus Vancouver and will likely remain a frequent healthy scratch moving forward. As such, the defenseman shouldn't be expected to offer more than low-end fantasy value the rest of the 2021-22 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Predators' Ben Harpur: Watching from press box
Harpur sat out his sixth consecutive game as a healthy scratch Saturday against the Canadiens. Harpur is basically a depth defenseman for the Preds this year, and only suits up when one of the team's regulars is either injured or needs a night off. He has played in only four games so far this season with zero points and a minus-6 rating.... See More ... See Less -
Predators' Ben Harpur: Staying in Nashville
Harpur signed a one-year, $800,000 deal with Nashville on Monday, Adam Vingan of The Athletic reports. Harpur tallied seven assists with a plus-2 rating while averaging 16:26 of ice time through 34 games with Nashville last season. He should be expected to fill a similar role as a bottom-pair or depth defenseman during the 2021-22 campaign.... See More ... See Less -
Predators' Ben Harpur: Records helper
Harpur notched an assist in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Hurricanes in Game 6. Harpur played in five of the Predators' six playoff contests, and his assist Thursday was his only point. The 26-year-old added 10 hits, seven blocked shots and a minus-2 rating in a limited role on the third pairing. Harpur had a career-high seven points (all assists) in 34 regular-season contests in his first year with the Predators.... See More ... See Less -
Predators' Ben Harpur: Sits out Saturday
Harpur did not play in Saturday's 1-0 overtime win against the Stars, his first time serving as a healthy scratch since early March. Everybody needs a night off once in a while. Harpur has been a solid source of minutes on the back end for the Predators this season, with an average TOI of 16:33. With just seven assists on the season, he doesn't factor into the scoring much, but he's not a defensive liability most nights, either, with a plus-4 rating in 32 games. Overall, Harpur's fantasy value remains confined to very deep leagues at this time.... See More ... See Less -
Predators' Ben Harpur: Helpers in consecutive games
Harpur notched a shorthanded assist in Thursday's 4-1 loss to the Hurricanes. Harpur earned the secondary helper on Erik Haula's third-period tally. In his last seven games, Harpur has generated five assists. A plethora of injuries to the Predators' blue line has opened up a spot in the lineup for the 26-year-old defenseman, and he's done fairly well. He has seven assists, 30 hits, 27 shots on net, 25 blocked shots and 15 PIM in 26 outings.... See More ... See Less -
Predators' Ben Harpur: Defensively sound Tuesday
Harpur recorded an assist, three blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Tuesday's 7-2 win over the Lightning. Harpur was steady on defense, and he contributed a secondary assist on Viktor Arvidsson's first-period tally. While offense isn't a significant part of Harpur's game, he's picked up four assists in his last six games. The 26-year-old blueliner is at a career-high six points (all helpers), 29 hits, 25 blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in 25 outings overall.... See More ... See Less
