  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Generates assist

MacDermid produced an assist, four hits and two PIM in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Capitals. MacDermid's long distance slapshot was tipped in by Andrew Cogliano in the second period. With three assists in 11 outings in January, this has been MacDermid's most productive month of the campaign -- mainly because he's been a fixture in an otherwise depleted lineup. The 28-year-old bruiser has four helpers, 65 hits, 31 PIM, eight shots on net and a plus-1 rating through 25 contests overall.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Rare multi-point effort Tuesday

MacDermid notched two assists, a fight, a plus-2 rating and two hits in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Panthers. MacDermid set up goals by Andrew Cogliano and J.T. Compher. This was MacDermid's first multi-point effort since Feb. 12, 2019 -- he often struggles to get on the scoresheet at all. The gritty 28-year-old has produced three assists, 25 PIM, 48 hits, a plus-1 rating and just six shots on goal through 18 appearances this season. He's bounced between forward and defense, but he rarely gets enough ice time to make an impact in either role.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Returns to action

MacDermid had two shots on goal, three hits and two penalty minutes over 3:52 of ice time in Monday's 1-0 shootout win over the Islanders. MacDermid returned to action after missing 16 games due to a lower-body injury. The hybrid forward/defenseman was deployed as a winger on the seldom-used fourth line. MacDermid skated four shifts in the first period then one each in the successive periods. In true MacDermid form, he was physical in his limited TOI and was whistled for an interference penalty, the fifth time in nine games he's picked up PIM.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Removed from IR

MacDermid (lower body) was activated from injured reserve Monday, per the NHL media site. MacDermid, who last played Nov. 12, is expected to return to the lineup Monday against the Islanders, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports. He has posted one assist, three shots on goal and 22 hits in eight appearances this season.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Sheds non-contact sweater

MacDermid (lower body) practiced without a non-contact sweater Friday, Adrian Dater of Colorado Hockey Now reports. MacDermid was in a regular jersey and could make his return to the ice Saturday night against Nashville. Another hopeful sign was MacDermid giving fighting lessons to defenseman Andreas Englund who has filled in for MacDermid as Colorado's resident tough guy.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Skates with team

MacDermid (lower body) was on the ice with teammates during Thursday's morning skate, Brennan Vogt of Colorado Hockey Now reports. MacDermid had been skating on his own, so joining teammates for the first time since his injury is a positive sign. The hybrid forward/defenseman is tentatively slated to return toward the end of December.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Skates in non-contact sweater

MacDermid (lower body) skated in a non-contact sweater Saturday, Brennan Vogt of Colorado Hockey Now reports. MacDermid, who has missed the last 12 games, is not one of Colorado's offensive stars on the shelf, but he does offer combativeness that has been missed. At several points during his absence, opponents have been overly physical with the team's stars with little response by the Avalanche, per Adrian Dater of Colorado Hockey Now. The team's most physical players -- MacDermid, Gabriel Landeskog (knee) and Josh Manson (lower body) -- are not around to retaliate. The player trying to fill that void is third-pair defenseman Andreas Englund.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Placed on injured reserve

MacDermid (lower body) is listed on injured reserve retroactive to Nov. 24, per the NHL media site. MacDermid's placement on IR should come as a surprise considering he is not expected back until late December at the earliest. Without the defenseman in the lineup, Andreas Englund has been pressed into service along with Jacob MacDonald. Even once cleared to play, MacDermid is far from a lock to play every night and could find himself watching from the press box as a healthy scratch periodically.

MacDermid (lower body) will be sidelined for about 4-6 weeks, Ryan Boulding of NHL.com reports. MacDermid was injured in Saturday's game versus the Hurricanes. The Avalanche will replace him in the lineup with Andreas Englund, who was called up from the minors Sunday.

MacDermid suffered a lower-body injury and won't return to Saturday's game against the Hurricanes. • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Posts assist

MacDermid logged an assist and four hits in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Predators. MacDermid earned his first point of the year after successfully helping to kill a penalty. He got the puck to Nathan MacKinnon, who set up Mikko Rantanen for a rush out of the box midway through the second period. MacDermid has been in and out of the lineup this year, but with both Samuel Girard (lower body) and Bowen Byram (lower body) missing, he should get a chance to log some third-pairing minutes. MacDermid has one assist, 21 hits, 14 PIM, three shots on goal and a blocked shot through seven appearances.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Healthy scratch Friday

MacDermid was a healthy scratch for Friday's 1-0 loss to New Jersey. MacDermid was on the bench for the third straight game. He opened the season as a winger on the fourth line and filled in on the blue line for an injured Devon Toews last Friday, his last active game. If MacDermid were a lineup regular, he could help in categories like hits and PIM. He's third on the team with 17 hits and seven PIM while averaging 7:16 TOI and playing four of the team's eight games.

MacDermid had been operating as a forward on the fourth line but was shifted back to the blue line Friday with Devon Toews (undisclosed) unavailable. • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Enters for injured Girard

MacDermid had one shot on net and two hits over 8:50 of ice time in Thursday's 2-0 loss to the Hurricanes. MacDermid, who was a healthy scratch the previous two games, entered Thursday's active lineup as a defenseman, filling in for the injured Samuel Girard (lower body). Girard flew back to Denver for further evaluation, which could be a sign of the injury's severity. MacDermid has not registered a point over the last 14 games.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Scratched Monday

MacDermid was a healthy scratch for Monday's game against the Islanders. It was MacDermid's turn to sit in the press box, as Darren Helm returned to the lineup after being scratched Saturday. MacDermid, a hybrid defenseman/forward, is one of four forwards that take turns as a healthy scratch.

  • Avalanche's Kurtis MacDermid: Takes on another heavyweight

MacDermid had a five-minute fighting major and 2:03 of ice time in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Flames. MacDermid has been the preferred fourth-line winger of late and replaced the scratched Darren Helm in the lineup Saturday. Within the last week, he was active instead of Nicolas Aube-Kubel and Tyson Jost, who left the game with a facial injury. MacDermid's biggest contribution to the event was a heavyweight bout with Calgary's Milan Lucic, the fifth fighting major of the season for the 6-foot-5, 233-pound hybrid defenseman/forward. MacDermid previously squared off with the 6-foot-1, 220-pound Nicolas Deslauriers (twice), the 6-foot-6, 233-pound Jordan Greenway and the 6-foot-2, 225-pound Ryan Reaves.

MacDermid will operate as a fourth-line forward for Tuesday's game against Arizona, Adrian Dater of Colorado Hockey Now reports. MacDermid filled in on the blue line the last few games, but the hybrid player slides up to forward with the expected return of defenseman Ryan Murray from an upper-body injury. MacDermid has three points (one goal), 27 shots on net, 46 hits, a team-high 56 PIM and is plus-4 while averaging 7:29 of ice time over 31 games.
