  • Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Scoreless in six straight

Barzal hasn't registered a point since sitting out a game Jan. 6 with a lower-body injury. There is no word on whether the injury is related to the lack of production from Barzal or if he's simply in a slump. Barzal has 11 goals and 30 assists in 46 games this season. The assists and points lead the Islanders, while he's fourth on the team in goals. The Islanders need more from Barzal, but a lack of scoring wingers for him to set up has seemingly hurt his production. The center's supporting cast may not change this season unless the team is willing to make a big trade before the March 3 deadline.

Barzal scored a goal, added two assists and went plus-2 in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Canucks. One of Barzal's assists came on the power play. The center has racked up six goals and three helpers over his last six outings. He's up to 10 tallies, 40 points (16 on the power play), 92 shots on net and a plus-8 rating through 39 contests overall. Barzal remains one of the Islanders' most talented forwards, though he hasn't maintained a point-per-game since his rookie year, when he had 85 points in 82 outings in 2017-18.

  • Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Nets 100th goal in 400th game

Barzal scored a goal in Sunday's 4-1 loss to the Kraken. One game, two milestones -- Barzal scored his 100th career goal in his 400th game Sunday. He didn't get much on a shot set up by Casey Cizikas' centering pass, but it was enough to fool Martin Jones. That was it for the Islanders' offense in the loss. Barzal has 348 points over parts of seven seasons in blue and orange. He's scored six of his nine goals this year over his last eight games, and he's up to 37 points, 91 shots and a plus-6 rating through 38 outings.

While he's at only four goals on the season, he's added 27 helpers in 31 contests, ranking sixth in the league in assists. The center has picked up 75 shots on net and a plus-1 rating while logging top-line minutes.

  • Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Goalless streak at five games

Barzal hasn't lit the lamp in his last five games and has only one goal in his last 11 contests. This has been a strange season so far for Barzal. He has 30 points in 30 games but only three goals. Barzal did score the only shootout goal for the Islanders in their 4-3 loss to the Bruins on Tuesday, but wrinkling the twine has become elusive for the team's most skilled offensive player. Perhaps Barzal will find that goal-scoring touch Friday when the Islanders begin their longest road trip of the season in Arizona.

  • Islanders' Mathew Barzal: First goals of season

Barzal scored two goals Saturday in a 5-2 loss to the Stars. The goals were his first of the season -- it just took 19 games to get them. Barzal put the Isles up 1-0 at the 1:30 mark fo the second period when he tipped an Alexander Romanov shot. And then he converted a Brock Nelson pass on the power play later the same period. Despite his low goal totals this season, Barzal is on the best scoring pace since his rookie year. He has 21 points in 19 games.

  • Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Adds two more assists

Barzal registered two assists in Monday's 4-2 victory over Ottawa. Barzal has 18 assists in 17 games this season and has been particularly good lately with seven assists in his last five contests. He hasn't scored a goal yet despite recording 44 shots, including two Monday. He's never been a major goal scorer, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him end his current drought sooner rather than later. In the meantime, the number of assists he's collected has more than made up for the lack of goals.

  • Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Racks up three assists in win

Barzal produced three assists, five shots on goal and a plus-2 rating in Monday's 4-3 overtime win over the Flames. Barzal still hasn't lit the lamp on his own this year, but he's recorded four multi-assist efforts in 13 games. He had a hand in three of the Islanders' four goals Monday, giving him 14 helpers this season. His lack of scoring isn't an issue with effort -- he has 37 shots on net this year, but luck hasn't been on his side. The 25-year-old is still finding ways to produce, so there's little chance head coach Lane Lambert takes him off the first line.

While he's still in search of his first goal of the season, Barzal has contributed six helpers, including three on the power play. The productive center has added 16 shots on net, four PIM and a minus-4 rating in a top-line role.

  • Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Collects fourth helper

Barzal earned an assist during the Islanders' 4-1 loss to the Devils on Thursday. Barzal, the Islanders' No. 1 center, was, in effect, a no-show Thursday. Sure, he was credited with an assist on Anders Lee's third-period goal, but like many of his teammates, his effort came up short. By the time the Islanders registered their first shot on goal, the Devils compiled 15. Barzal, the 2015 first-round draft pick, was issued the most ice time among the team's forwards (19:21), but he did not register a hit or a block. He did, however, generate one shot.

  • Islanders' Mathew Barzal: Earns first assist of season

Barzal was credited with an assist Thursday, but the Islanders fell to the Panthers 3-1. Barzal, who ranks sixth in his 2015 draft class with 312 points, seeks to avoid another slow start. After scoring just four goals in his opening 17 appearances last season, Barzal rebounded to collect 12 points during the final 11 matches. The 25-year-old center had 85 points as a rookie (2017-18) but hasn't registered more than 62 since then. A quarterback on the power play, Barzal earned an assist Thursday, but needs to show more goal-scoring consistency.
