    Speers was sent down to AHL Binghamton on Tuesday. The Canadian wasn't able to survive another round of cuts, and after playing two playoff games last season for AHL Binghamton, he'll rejoin the minor-league club for the start of the 2017-18 year. Speers has excellent leadership skills and was the captain of his OHL team, and coach John Hynes is high on his potential. He could get the call to the NHL at some point this season.

    Speers was reassigned to the OHL on Monday. Speers will head back to Sault Ste. Marie for at least the remainder of the OHL season after appearing in three games with the Devils. In those outings, the winger tallied three shots on goal and one hit while averaging just 9:29 of ice time per night. While it is possible the 19-year-old could be called up to New Jersey later in the year once the junior season is over and the 23-man roster limited is lifted, owners may not want to utilize a roster spot on Speers except perhaps in dynasty leagues.
