  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Carried to OT win by offense

Cossa turned aside 31 shots in Thursday's 4-3 overtime win over the Penguins. Cossa nearly blew an early 2-0 lead, but Logan Cooley bailed him out by completing a hat trick with exactly one second left on the clock in the third period, batting a puck out of midair past Arturs Silovs. That set the stage for Mikhail Sergachev to flip home the OT winner. Cossa continues to benefit from plenty of offense when he's between the pipes -- despite a lackluster 3.20 GAA and .857 save percentage in five outings (four starts), the 23-year-old netminder sports a 3-1-0 record as Karel Vejmelka's backup.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Set to start Thursday

Cossa will protect the road goal versus the Penguins on Thursday, Josh Getzoff of SportsNet Pittsburgh reports. Cossa will get another look at the Penguins after earning the win by stopping 15 of 19 shots against them Oct. 19 in Utah. Cossa's start also allows Karel Vejmelka to get some rest after he started the last three games. Cossa has a 3.33 GAA and an .820 save percentage over four outings this season, which makes him a risky fantasy option.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Earns win despite allowing four goals

Cossa stopped 14 of 18 shots in Monday's 5-4 win over the Penguins. Cossa secured the victory despite posting a disappointing .778 save percentage, and it was clear that he benefited from Utah's impressive offensive performance. The young netminder faced relatively little pressure for much of the contest but conceded twice in the third period as Pittsburgh threatened a comeback. Although the win provides some fantasy value, his limited save total and four goals allowed highlight the volatility of his early NHL opportunities. With Karel Vejmelka being a workhorse in the Mammoth's crease, Cossa's fantasy upside will be limited to specific matchups in which he gets an odd start. He's not a goaltender you'd be looking to roster in most formats, especially since he's posted a single-game save percentage below .800 in three of his four appearances.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: First goalie off Monday

Cossa was the first goalie off during Monday's morning skate, Cole Bagley of KSL Sports reports, indicating that he'll draw the home start against the Penguins. Cossa has seen limited playing time early in the regular season, but he entered Saturday's home game against the Oilers in relief and turned aside three of four shots he faced. He'll draw his third start of the season Monday, and he's gone 1-1-0 with a 2.94 GAA and .839 save percentage across his three appearances to begin the year.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Limited work in relief outing

Cossa stopped three of four shots in relief of Karel Vejmelka during Saturday's 6-2 loss to the Oilers. Cossa handled a little less than half of the game and faced little traffic. Through three outings this season, he's given up five goals on 31 shots. Cossa will continue to handle the backup role behind Vejmelka, which will likely see the former on the bench to begin Monday's game versus the Penguins.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Chased after three goals on eight shots

Cossa allowed three goals on eight shots before being replaced in the first period of a 6-1 loss to Boston on Thursday. Boston rang up those three goals in a 5:45 span, culminating with Mason Lohrei's quick snipe stick side at 15:51. He had delivered an outstanding performance against Columbus in a win Saturday night, but Boston plays an entirely different level. Cossa will get another chance soon, but his matchup will matter. This was his third NHL start of his career, so his development will take priority. Cossa may get 20-25 starts this season.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Gets win in Utah debut

Cossa stopped 17 shots in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Blue Jackets. A Kent Johnson tally in the second period spoiled a shutout bid for Cossa in his Mammoth debut, and just his second NHL appearance. The 23-year-old netminder is set to back up Karel Vejmelka this season after being acquired from the Red Wings in June, and more performances like this could earn him a bigger share of the workload than expected.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Falls in overtime

Cossa stopped 30 of 35 shots in Thursday's 5-4 preseason overtime loss to the Golden Knights. Cossa looked good at times through the first two periods, but he couldn't hold back Vegas in the third. The 23-year-old will get a chance to be an NHL regular as Karel Vejmelka's backup in 2026-27. Cossa has allowed six goals on 47 shots over two preseason outings, though it'll likely be Vejmelka between the pipes for the preseason finale Saturday versus the Avalanche.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Expected to start Thursday

Cossa is slated to start in Thursday's preseason road game against Vegas, per Jesse Granger of The Athletic. Cossa had a 2.33 GAA and a .915 save percentage in 39 regular-season appearances in 2025-26. This will be his second game of the 2026 preseason after he turned aside 11 of 12 shots across 40 minutes manning the net during Sunday's 4-1 loss to Colorado.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Makes 11 saves in exhibition play

Cossa allowed one goal on 12 shots in Sunday's 4-1 preseason loss in Colorado. Cossa played the first 40 minutes of Sunday's game before being replaced by Michael Hrabal in the final stanza. Utah gave up a first-round pick to get Cossa on the night of the 2026 NHL Draft, so he will likely be given every opportunity to earn the backup role behind Karel Vejmelka this season.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Secures two-year deal

Cossa inked a two-year, $4 million contract with the Mammoth on Tuesday, per PuckPedia. Cossa was dealt from Detroit to Utah during Friday's draft in exchange for the 2026 No. 23 overall pick. The 23-year-old netminder was a first-round selection in 2021, so he should have every opportunity to be the backup to Karel Vejmelka for at least the next two seasons. However, Cossa has just one game of NHL experience, so he will likely have to earn that role during training camp in September.

  • Mammoth's Sebastian Cossa: Shipped to Utah via trade

Cossa was dealt to Utah from Detroit on Friday in exchange for the No. 23 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. Originally the No. 15 overall pick by the Red Wings in 2021, Cossa has one NHL game under his belt, with that coming back in the 2024-25 campaign. He is coming off a season with AHL Grand Rapids in which Cossa posted a 26-8-4 record along with a 2.33 GAA and .915 save percentage. Mammoth starter Karel Vejmelka appeared in an NHL-high 64 games a year ago, and Vitek Vanecek is a pending unrestricted free agent, so the 23-year-old Cossa should be considered the favorite for the backup job in Utah this coming season.

  • Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa: Collects fourth shutout

Cossa posted a 26-save shutout in AHL Grand Rapids' 3-0 win over Milwaukee on Saturday. Cossa also had an assist in the contest. He's allowed two or fewer goals in eight of the 10 games during his current winnings streak. For the season, the top prospect goalie is 15-1-0 with four shutouts, a 1.57 GAA and a .940 save percentage, which has been a large reason for the Griffins' historic level of success so far.

  • Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa: Logs third shutout

Cossa posted a 20-save shutout in AHL Grand Rapids' 1-0 win over Rockford on Saturday. The Griffins' offense had a rare quiet game, but Cossa made sure that wasn't a problem. He earned his third shutout of the season in the process. Playing on a strong team has seen him post a 12-1-0 record with a 1.62 GAA and a .939 save percentage through 13 contests.

  • Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa: Facing Blackhawks

Cossa will defend the home net in Tuesday's exhibition matchup against Chicago, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. Cossa may split the contest with Michal Postava. The 22-year-old Cossa posted a 21-15-5 record with a 2.45 GAA and a .911 save percentage across 41 regular-season appearances for AHL Grand Rapids in 2024-25. He will likely spend most of the 2025-26 campaign in the minors.

  • Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa: Recalled Tuesday

Cossa was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids under emergency conditions Tuesday. Petr Mrazek (undisclosed) was hurt versus Utah on Monday, but this move suggests there may be something bothering either Cam Talbot or Alex Lyon as well. Cossa could dress for Tuesday's game versus the Avalanche. He has a 2.38 GAA and a .913 save percentage at the AHL level and also made his NHL debut Dec. 9 against the Sabres.

  • Red Wings' Sebastian Cossa: Excellent in third pro season

Cossa has gone 14-9-3 with a 2.23 GAA and a .918 save percentage over 26 games with AHL Grand Rapids this season. Cossa also made his NHL debut Dec. 10, 2024, allowing two goals on 14 shots. His AHL numbers are better in 2024-25 than they were last year -- he had a 2.41 GAA and a .913 save percentage over 40 outings in 2023-24. With all of Alex Lyon, Ville Husso and Jack Campbell coming off the books this summer, Cossa may be given a chance to claim an NHL job in the fall, though the team is likely to sign at least one other veteran goalie to keep the organizational depth steady. Cossa is not far off from being an impact player in fantasy, especially if the Red Wings continue to improve overall.
