  • Ducks' Joel Persson: Expected to sign in Sweden

Persson is set to re-sign with Vaxjo HC of the Swedish Hockey League, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports. Persson will return to Vaxjo after just one season in North America, where he logged 13 games for the Oilers but otherwise spent the year in the minors. The blueliner was shipped to Anaheim at the trade deadline, but he was still unable to crack the NHL roster with his new club. Considering he is just 26 years of age, this may not be the last time Persson gets a look from an NHL club. If the Ducks extend a qualifying offer to the restricted free agent this summer, they would retain his rights should he try to make a return.

The Ducks acquired Persson from the Oilers in exchange for Angus Redmond and a 2022 seventh-round pick Monday. After scoring 16 points in 27 AHL games, the 25-year-old defenseman will likely report to AHL San Diego.

  • Oilers' Joel Persson: Sent down to minors

Persson was reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Monday. Persson saw action in three games after being promoted from the minors Dec. 3, in which he registered five shots, two PIM and one hit while averaging 13:56 of ice time. With the Swede joining the Condors, the team called up Caleb Jones instead, who could jump into the lineup over Brandon Manning.

  • Oilers' Joel Persson: Summoned to The Show

The Oilers recalled Persson from AHL Bakersfield on Tuesday. Edmonton placed Matt Benning (head) on injured reserve in a corresponding move, so Persson will round out the team's depth at defense for at least the next three games. The 25-year-old Swede has notched two helpers in 10 games with the big club this campaign.

  • Oilers' Joel Persson: Dropped to minors

Persson was reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Monday. Persson's demotion could be an indication Adam Larsson (lower leg) or Brandon Manning (hand) is ready to return versus San Jose on Tuesday. In 10 outings with the Oilers this season, the 25-year-old Persson notched two assists, 12 shots and nine blocks while averaging 15:43 of ice time. The Swede figures to log significantly more minutes in the minors which should help his long-term development.

  • Oilers' Joel Persson: Gets on scoresheet with two helpers

Persson recorded a pair of assists and went plus-2 in Friday's 4-0 win over the Devils. The Swedish defenseman has had a rough adjustment to the NHL, but he finally got out of the starting blocks for offense. The two helpers in Friday's contest were his first two NHL points, coming in his ninth appearance. The 25-year-old has added nine shots on goal and nine blocked shots -- numbers that aren't worth adding in fantasy circles.

Persson is closing in on a return to action, but he's still awaiting medical clearance for the concussion he sustained Oct. 14 against Chicago. Once he's given the green light, the 25-year-old Swede should return to a bottom-pairing role.

  • Oilers' Joel Persson: Ruled out Sunday

Coach Dave Tippett said Persson (concussion) is nearing a return, but the defenseman won't be ready to play Sunday against the Panthers, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports. Tippett added that Persson still needs to get a few more practices under his belt. It looks like Persson will have a legitimate shot at returning during Edmonton's Tuesday-Wednesday back-to-back set in Detroit and Columbus.

  • Oilers' Joel Persson: Back on ice

Persson (concussion) resumed skating Thursday. Persson is still in the NHL's concussion protocol and won't play Thursday against the Capitals, but he's clearly making progress in his recovery. Another update on the 25-year-old rookie's status should be released once he's cleared to rejoin the lineup.

  • Oilers' Joel Persson: In concussion protocol

Persson is currently in the NHL's concussion protocol, Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal reports. Recoveries from concussions are notoriously difficult to predict, so until the Oilers release another update on his status, Persson should be considered out indefinitely. The 25-year-old rookie has gone scoreless while averaging 16:04 of ice time in five games this campaign.
