Lightning's Gabriel Fortier: Signs one-year contract

Fortier, who was set to become a restricted free agent this summer, inked a one-year, two-way contract with Tampa Bay on Wednesday.
Fortier had 11 goals and 29 points in 67 contests with AHL Syracuse last season. The 23-year-old has also contributed a goal in 11 career NHL outings. He might compete for a roster spot with the Lightning out of training camp, but it wouldn't be surprising to see him spend the majority of the 2023-24 campaign in the minors.

Lightning's Gabriel Fortier: Heading to AHL

Fortier was assigned to AHL Syracuse on Friday, according to Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com.
Fortier made the roster out of training camp as the 13th forward and managed to play against the Flyers on Saturday, picking up one hit in 8:25 of action. The Lightning have not made a corresponding move to fill the roster spot at this time.

Fortier worked in with the offensive lines through practice on Tuesday and looks set to make the Lightning as the 13th forward, reports NHL.com.
Fortier was drafted by the Bolts in the second round in 2018 and is best known as a menace on the forecheck. The 22-year-old winger got into 10 NHL games with the Bolts last season and scored one goal. Fortier is a solid skater who plays a physical game, so his game is best-suited for the Bolts' bottom six. Hits may eventually be his fantasy calling card.

Fortier opened the scoring at 6:05 of the first period, getting loose on a breakaway sprung by a Mikhail Sergachev pass. This was Fortier's first NHL goal and point, coming in his eighth appearance. The second-round pick from 2018 has added 12 shots on net, 20 hits and a minus-1 rating this year.

Fortier could be tasked with immediately jumping into the lineup against St. Louis on Tuesday after Mathieu Joseph (undisclosed) was labeled doubtful. In 17 minor-league contests with the Crunch, the 21-year-old Fortier garnered four goals and seven helpers. If he can bring that offensive touch to the NHL level, the winger could offer solid fantasy value.
