  • Islanders' Grant Hutton: Sent back to AHL

Hutton was returned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports. Hutton spent nearly a week with the Islanders, but he made just one appearance with the NHL club across that span. On the season, he's made 13 NHL appearances, logging two assists, 13 hits, 12 blocked shots and four PIM while averaging 13:28 of ice time. His demotion could signal that Alexander Romanov (upper body) or Isaiah George (upper body) will be available for Tuesday's home game against Ottawa.

  • Islanders' Grant Hutton: With big club

Hutton was on the ice with the Islanders on Tuesday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports, indicating he has been called up from AHL Bridgeport. Hutton's promotion likely means Isaiah George (upper body) won't be available against the Golden Knights on Thursday. Even with Hutton on the roster, he probably shouldn't be expected to suit up for the Isles, as Dennis Cholowski is poised to replace George in the lineup.

  • Islanders' Grant Hutton: Put on waivers

Hutton was placed on waivers by the Islanders on Wednesday, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet. Hutton has two assists over 12 outings with the Islanders in 2024-25. He was a healthy scratch for New York's past three games, so sending Hutton to AHL Bridgeport would provide him with an opportunity to get some ice time.

  • Islanders' Grant Hutton: Playing time trending down

Hutton has been scratched for nine of the last 14 games after he sat out Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Blackhawks. The Islanders have gotten Alexander Romanov and Adam Pelech back from injuries over the last few weeks, creating a crowded blue line. Hutton is currently filling a reserve role, and the team wants to get Isaiah George more of a look as well. Barring further injuries on the blue line, don't expect Hutton to play regularly moving forward. He has two helpers, 10 shots on net, 12 hits and 11 blocked shots through 12 appearances.

  • Islanders' Grant Hutton: Earns first two assists

Hutton notched two assists and went plus-3 in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Canucks. Hutton helped out on goals by Pierre Engvall and Noah Dobson. The 29-year-old Hutton hadn't earned an assist at the NHL level prior to Thursday -- his first NHL point was a goal in the 2021-22 campaign. The defenseman continues to fill in on a short-staffed Islanders blue line, which is missing three regulars and likely won't be at full strength until mid-to-late December at the earliest. In addition to his two assists, Hutton has six shots on net, seven hits and nine blocked shots over six appearances in a third-pairing role.

  • Islanders' Grant Hutton: Recalled from AHL

Hutton was recalled from AHL Bridgeport on Saturday, according to Andrew Gross of Newsday. Hutton had a pair of assists in nine AHL games before his recall. Adam Pelech (jaw) moved to injured reserve in a corresponding move after taking a puck to the face against the Sabres on Friday, and Mike Reilly (upper body) is day-to-day after being injured in Friday's win. Hutton could get into the lineup Sunday against the Rangers if Reilly is unavailable.
