Coyotes' John Hayden: Pens deal with Arizona
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden inked a one-year contract with Arizona on Friday, Darren Dreger of TSN reports. The deal is worth $750,000.

Hayden spent the first three years of his career with the Blackhawks before playing 43 games with New Jersey last season. He only recorded four points while averaging 9:43 of ice time with the Devils, so he'll likely be a fantasy non-factor -- even if he spends most of his time in the NHL, which isn't a guarantee.

John Hayden: No qualifying offer coming
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

The Devils will not extend Hayden a qualifying offer, which means he'll become an unrestricted free agent Friday.

Hayden appeared in 43 games with the Devils last season, but he was highly ineffective, managing just four points over that span. He did, however, rack up 77 PIM, as he's never been afraid to drop the mitts, but that's not enough to warrant keeping him around going forward. He'll likely to have to settle for a two-way deal with another NHL organization if he wants to continue his career in North America.

Devils' John Hayden: Roughs it up in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden recorded four hits and a fight in Tuesday's 5-4 shootout loss to Montreal.

Hayden doesn't contribute offensively often -- he has just three points through 29 games -- but he adds physicality to the fourth line. This is Hayden's third fight of the season, and he can be safely looked over in the fantasy realm, even in leagues that reward physicality.

Devils' John Hayden: Fills scoresheet in victory
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden scored a goal on two shots, served two hits and amassed 17 PIM in Monday's 7-1 win over the Blackhawks.

Hayden fought Dennis Gilbert in the first period and also received an instigator minor and a misconduct. He redeemed himself with the third of four Devils goals in the second period. The former Blackhawk has been limited to two points, 27 hits and 21 PIM through 13 games this season while skating almost exclusively on the fourth line.

Devils' John Hayden: Finally marks scoresheet
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden dished out a helper while adding three hits and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Red Wings.

The assist was Hayden's first point in 10 games played as a member of the Devils. Fantasy owners can continue to ignore the 24-year-old Chicago native, as he can barely carve out a consistent spot in the lineup on one of the league's worst teams.

Devils' John Hayden: Searching for first point with NJ
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden finished with a plus-2 rating over 12:49 of ice time in Thursday's 5-2 win over the Rangers.

Hayden has now dressed for three games with New Jersey, but he's still searching for his first point. Coming off a five-point season in 54 games with Chicago, Hayden's not expected to contribute much offensively.

Devils' John Hayden: Traded to Devils
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden was traded Saturday from Chicago to New Jersey in exchange for John Quenneville, reports Frank Seravalli of

Hayden brings a physical edge to the ice, but that's pretty much the extent of his value. Still, that's something the Devils sorely lacked in 2018-19, so expect Hayden to see regular ice time on the lower lines this season.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Leading team in hits
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden currently leads the Blackhawks in hits with 85 in 47 appearances.

Hayden will never be a viable fantasy asset, as he's only notched four points while averaging 9:23 of ice time this season, but his physicality and willingness to drop the mitts will continue to make him an attractive fourth-line option for coach Jeremy Colliton down the stretch.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Physical in loss
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden collected five hits in Thursday's 3-2 loss to the Islanders.

Hayden increased his hit total to 44 this season while also blocking 18 shots. Over 31 games, the winger has three points and a minus-11 rating. As for ice time, Hayden averages 10:19 per game and 41 seconds of power-play ice time.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: In lineup Sunday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden is set to suit up for Sunday's home tilt against Toronto, Tracey Myers of reports.

Hayden is expected to slot into a bottom-six spot on the wing in place of Andreas Martinsen. The 23-year-old Chicago native will make his first appearance of the season after playing 47 games at the NHL level last year.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Inks two-year extension with Chicago
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden signed a two-year, $1.5 million contract extension with the Blackhawks on Friday, Satchel Price of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Hayden was a solid bottom-six contributor for the Blackhawks in 2017-18, notching four goals and 13 points while averaging 10:49 of ice time in 47 contests, but he excelled after being sent to AHL Rockford in March, totaling five goals and 17 points in 24 games. The physical 6-foot-3 winger should be a regular in the big club's lineup in 2018-19, but his limited role will likely prevent him from establishing himself as a viable fantasy option in most formats.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Heads to AHL Rockford
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden (upper body) was reassigned to AHL Rockford on Sunday.

AHL Rockford is fighting for a final playoff spot in the Calder Cup race. If Hayden is healthy, he'll contribute for the final three games. Hayden's performance with the big club was respectable, with four goals and 13 points while averaging 10:49 through 47 games. His main stats are in physicality, where he has compiled 118 hits and 54 PIM.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Still unavailable
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden (upper body) won't play Friday against St. Louis, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Hayden will miss a fifth consecutive game, and with just one match remaining on the Blackhawks' schedule following Friday's contest, it seems likely that he won't return this season. If that ends up being the case, Hayden will finish the campaign having totaled just four goals and 13 points in 47 games with the big club. He did, however, rack up five goals and 14 points in 22 games with AHL Rockford this season, so it wouldn't be surprising to see a noticeable uptick in his offensive production at the NHL level in 2018-19.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Won't play Wednesday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden (upper body) is out for Wednesday's game against the Blues, Tracey Myers of reports.

That will make it four games missed with this injury. The 23-year-old will have two more opportunities to return Friday and Saturday. Though the Blackhawks have nothing to play for, they might want to get a young player like Hayden some more ice time, so if he gets healthy enough he could certainly return to the lineup.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Skates Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden (upper body) took the ice for a skating session back in Chicago on Friday, Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Hayden's session reportedly provided enough encouragement that coach Joel Quenneville suggested the center could return to the lineup for next Wednesday's game against the Blues. Given Chicago's non-playoff standing, the team will likely ensure he's healthy before slotting him back into the lines. However, his status shouldn't be of huge concern in many fantasy leagues since he's recorded only 13 points -- four goals and nine assists -- through 47 games this season.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: May skate Friday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden (upper body) could take part in Friday's game-day skate, Eric Lear of the Blackhawks' official site reports.

Considering Hayden has yet to resume skating with his teammates, it's safe to assume he won't be in the lineup for Thursday's matchup with Winnipeg. With both Hayden and Jonathan Toews (upper body) sidelined, the Hawks are giving youngsters Victor Ejdsell and Dylan Sikura a chance to show their skills and earn spots heading into 2018-19.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Out Monday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden will not be in the lineup versus San Jose on Monday due to an upper-body issue, Eric Lear of the Blackhawks' official site reports.

Despite logging time on the power play (0:58), Hayden is goalless in his previous seven outings. On the year, the center has appeared in 47 outings, in which he tallied four goals, nine assists and 118 hits. Considering he has been moved all over the depth chart, where the 22-year-old suits up once given the all-clear remains to be seen. In the meantime, Matthew Highmore will return to the lineup against the Sharks.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Promoted to top level
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden was recalled from AHL Rockford on Saturday, Tracey Myers of reports.

The Chicago native has played in 17 more games with the Blackhawks than he has with their top developmental affiliate this season. Hayden is a physical forward looking to build upon his total of three goals, eight assists and 43 PIM at the highest level during this 2017-18 campaign. Look for the center to replace Vinnie Hinostroza, who is out for personal reasons.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Shipped off to Rockford
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden was sent down to the minors Monday.

Considering Hayden is bogged down in an 18-game goalless streak -- during which he has added a mere three helpers -- it should come as no surprise the club is reassigning him to AHL Rockford. In fact, the center was a healthy scratch Sunday versus Edmonton, which should have been a red flag for fantasy owners. For the time being, Tomas Jurco will get the chance to earn a permanent spot in the lineup.

Blackhawks' John Hayden: Goal drought drags on
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Hayden's goalless streak has reached 11 consecutive games.

Perhaps the biggest factor in Hayden's inability to slip one past opposing netminders is his limited opportunities. During his drought, the 22-year-old has averaged a mere 9:55 of ice time. The Chicago native's primary fantasy category appears to be hits, as he has racked up 89 in 32 appearances.
