Gettinger was reassigned to AHL Hartford on Sunday, Jon Lane of NHL.com reports.
Gettinger played in four games during this NHL stint and failed to record a point while dishing out 15 hits. The 20-year-old will continue his development in minors with Matt Beleskey returning to the big club.
Gettinger was recalled from AHL Hartford on Wednesday, TSN reports.
Gettinger's promotion shouldn't come as a surprise as both Mats Zuccarello (groin) and Vladislav Namestnikov (concussion) are not joining the team on its two-game road trip. The youngster will likely suit up in both contests, beginning with Thursday's clash against Ottawa. Unless another forward is called up, the Rangers figure to go with seven defensemen.
Gettinger was demoted to AHL Hartford on Tuesday, TSN reports.
In the last five days, Gettinger has been both called up and dropped back down twice. The 20-year-old now has two NHL games under his belt this year, dishing out 10 total hits and averaging 7:15 per contest. He'll return to Hartford, where he has accrued 11 points in 20 games.

Gettinger was once again flipped between levels as he makes his way back up to the NHL. The winger will have to wait to see if Mats Zuccarello (groin) is available to determine whether he will slot into the lineup versus the Senators on Monday. In his NHL debut Saturday, the 20-year-old Gettinger dished out five hits and one block in seven minutes of action versus the Caps.
The Rangers reassigned Gettinger to AHL Hartford on Saturday.
Gettinger's demotion indicates Mats Zuccarello (groin) will likely be ready to return Monday against the Senators. The 6-foot-6 Gettinger racked up five hits while logging seven minutes of ice time in his NHL debut Saturday against the Capitals.
Gettinger will make his NHL debut Saturday afternoon against the Capitals.
Gettinger is set to replace Mats Zuccarello, who has been bothered by a groin injury. It's unlikely that Gettinger will be available in many DFS pools since he's merely filling in for an injured player, but the 6-foot-6, 220-pound winger does have some offensive flair to his game based on his running total of seven goals and four assists over 20 games with the AHL's Wolf Pack.
Gettinger was recalled from AHL Hartford on Friday.
The 20-year-old has yet to play in the NHL, and last season he was still playing junior for OHL Sault Ste. Marie. With the AHL's Wolf Pack, Gettinger had seven goals and four assists in 20 games before getting the call.
Gettinger scored and added a pair of assists in OHL Sault Ste. Marie's 4-3 win over Barrie on Saturday.
With 27 goals and 49 points in 45 games, Gettinger is in the midst of what is by far the best season of his junior career. Playing for a team that is currently sporting a 39-5-3 record certainly helps, but Gettinger has elite size (6-foot-6, 220 pounds) and a nice pair of hands for such a big kid. The 2016 fifth-round pick stands a decent chance of developing into a useful depth piece for the Blueshirts in the coming years.
