The Kings assigned Kaliyev to AHL Ontario on Thursday, Lisa Dillman of The Athletic reports.

This moves comes as a bit of a surprise, as Kaliyev played well in his NHL debut Tuesday against Anaheim, potting a goal in 14:42 of ice time, but he could be back with the big club sooner rather than later.

Kaliyev was reassigned to the Kings' taxi squad Wednesday, John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports.

That could still happen -- as long as the 19-year-old doesn't exceed seven games played, he won't use up the first year of his entry-level contract. Managers in dynasty formats may want to activate Kaliyev for his first taste of NHL action, but he's safe to leave off rosters in redraft leagues.

Kaliyev is slated to make his NHL debut in Tuesday's game against the Ducks. The 19-year-old spent the 2019-20 season with the Hamilton Bulldogs of the OHL, producing 44 goals and 54 assists in the process. He's expected to slot in on the fourth line, but he may garner power-play minutes as well.
