Serie A's second matchday continued on Saturday with some intriguing results with all eyes on Juventus in their first match since Cristiano Ronaldo departed for Manchester United. The Old Lady, looking to build momentum to kick off a new era, suffered a shock defeat at home to Empoli, 1-0. In other action on Sunday, one of the league's top scorers in Ciro Immobile went off while Fiorentina bounced back to get their first victory of the campaign.

In Turin, the feeling was that perhaps Juventus could perform even better without their departed superstar, giving more time in attack to the likes of Alvaro Morata and Paulo Dybala. Instead, the attack could not put one goal past by that was promoted from Serie B last season, with Leonardo Mancuso scoring this first-half winner.

It's back to the drawing board for Juve, with coach Massimo Allegri certainly questioning what he's gotten himself into.

Immobile the hero in emphatic victory

As for the match in Rome, it was a glorious day for Lazio as they trashed Spezia thanks to a first-half hat trick from Immobile. The victors actually went down four minutes in but would allow only one more shot on goal the rest of the way, while finishing six of their 10 shots on frame.

Fiorentina get their first win of the season

Argentine international Nicolas Gonzalez, who joined Fiorentina in the summer from Stuttgart, grabbed the winning goal against Torino on Saturday with this first-half strike:

After the Viola struggled and were also a bit unlucky against Roma on Matchday 1, they put together a comprehensive performance against Torino, especially defensively. Fiorentina did not allow a single shot on goal until Torino nabbed an 89th minute consolation goal, dominated possession and completed over 80 percent of their passes on the night, giving the team momentum ahead of the international break.

Friday's action

Action got underway with Inter Milan and Udinese Calcio registering wins with Joaquin Correa scoring twice on his debut and Gerard Deulofeu also on target.

Simone Inzaghi's men slipped behind to an Ivan Ilic goal after 15 minutes away at Hellas Verona before Lautaro Martinez levelled in the second half and Correa went on to add two after completing his move from SS Lazio earlier this week.

The Nerazzurri have six points from a possible six and sit top of the pile heading into the remainder of this weekend's action with Udinese second with four points.

That, after Luca Gotti's side eased to victory over Venezia FC 3-0 thanks to goals from Ignacio Pussetto, Deulofeu and Nahuel Molina in a result which actually means that the Friuli-based squad have already faced Juventus and Inter with four points from a possible six.
