Dayan Nessah leads Loyola Chicago past Citadel 77-52 in opener
CHICAGO (AP) Dayan Nessah scored 19 points as Loyola Chicago Ramblers beat Citadel 77-52 on Monday in a season opener for both teams.
Nessah had nine rebounds for the Ramblers. Chris Jeffrey scored 14 points, going 5 of 9 from the floor (2 for 4 from 3-point range). Jason Schofield had 10 points and shot 4 of 7.
Joe Hurlburt led the way for the Bulldogs with 11 points and seven rebounds. Citadel also got 10 points apiece from Keynan Davis and Marcos Gonzales.
Loyola Chicago took the lead for good with 17:49 remaining in the first half. The score was 36-27 at halftime, with Nessah racking up 10 points. Loyola Chicago pulled away with a 13-0 run in the second half to extend a six-point lead to 19 points. They outscored Citadel by 16 points in the final half, as Nessah led the way with a team-high nine second-half points.
Up next for Loyola Chicago is a matchup Thursday with West Georgia at home. Citadel hosts Erskine on Friday.
