PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) Bryce Canda hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 34.3 seconds left and Portland State ended the game with 12 straight points to beat crosstown rival Portland 80-75 in the season opener for both teams on Saturday night.

Canda finished with six of his 18 points during the Vikings' late run and Deontae North added 14 points. Ryan Edwards had 10 of his 12 points in the second half and Traylin Farris had 11 points and 12 boards.

After the opening minutes, the Pilots held the lead for over 25 minutes until Brandon Hollins' basket gave Portland State a 54-52 lead with 12:30 to play. The teams went back-and-forth from there - neither leading by more than three - until Portland had a 12-2 run capped by Franklin Porter's free throws to lead 75-68 with 2:33 left.

Marcus Shaver Jr. had 15 points in his college debut for the Pilots. Josh McSwiggan added 15, Porter 14 and Philipp Hartwich had 10 points and 18 rebounds.
