HATTIESBURG, Miss. (AP) Jacobi Boykins scored 18 points with nine rebounds and Derric Jean had 18 points and six assists to lead Louisiana Tech to a 79-55 win over Southern Miss on Sunday in a Conference USA opener for both teams.

Erik McCree added 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs (9-5), who won their first true road game this season.

Quinton Campbell scored 16 points and Bilal Abdur-Rahim 12 for the Golden Eagles (3-10), who made only 4 of 22 3-pointers and committed 15 turnovers.

Southern Miss, after falling behind by 20 early in the second half, went on a 20-5 run to get within six with 9 1/2 minutes to go but Boykins scored four points to begin a 9-0 spurt and then two free throws to start an 16-2 run to solidify a double-digit lead.

Southern Miss led only at 2-0 before Jean hit consecutive 3-pointers.
