Maryland has big plans for Cole Field House, once the legendary home of Maryland basketball from 1955-2002. On Friday, the school unveiled plans for a $155 million renovation to the historic building that will give the Terps football team an indoor facility and provide support services to the entire school.

According to the plans released by Maryland, the school plans to add a regulation-size indoor football practice field, strength and conditioning facilities, academic and nutritional support areas for student athletes and, according to the school, "at least 16,000 square feet of research space to study and prevent concussion and traumatic brain injury, human physiology and performance, and medical biomechanics."

"This is a game-changer for us," Randy Edsall said. "It shows the commitment for excellence. It shows a commitment to the students and student-athletes here at the University of Maryland."

Maryland also plans to make "New Cole Field House" the future home of the school's Academy of Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

The Board of Regents must approve the project, but the current plan is for construction to begin in December 2015. Phase one the Terrapin Performance Center is expected to be completed by April 2017 while the entire construction project will be done in June 2018.

The futuristic locker room is similar to the sleek approach we have seen recently at Texas A&M and Oregon, while the main entry photo (below) makes this corner of College Park look like Times Square. Since quarterback CJ Brown has been at Maryland forever, we hope he will be on the building when the project is completed.
