Michigan football has broken out a few new looks in recent years, and now the Wolverines have linked up with adidas to debut a unique uniform for the Outback Bowl on New Years Day. The coaches and seniors had the final call on attire for the Wolverines' showdown against South Carolina, and senior safety Jordan Kovacs is excited to put on the new threads.
"We enjoy wearing unique uniforms for special games, and that's what it is for us seniors and this team," Kovacs said. "It will be fun going out and playing for Michigan one last time in these uniforms."
The Wolverines will feature a white jersey with blue on the shoulders and down to the sleeve. The player numbers will be maize with a blue outline, while the player's last name will appear in blue. To top it all off, the school has the phrase, "It's Great To Be A Michigan Wolverine," stitched into the inside neck of the jersey and will be displayed on blue and white undershirts.
The helmets will also be new, with a navy matte finish and the traditional maize design. Both helmets and jerseys will be auctioned off following the game. The proceeds from the auction (held at MGoBlue.com) will benefit the U-M Community and University Engagement Office that supports the community service initiatives from Michigan student-athletes.
"I love them," said senior quarterback Denard Robinson. "We only saw a photo of them early in the year, but I think they look even better. It will be fun, but we know we're going to Tampa to play a football game and a great team in South Carolina, so we have to stay focused."
