Update at 6:15 p.m. ET: Gary Patterson updated Trevone Boykin's status after the game, indicating that his star quarterback should be good to go for next Saturday.

''I think Trevone will be back,'' Patterson said. ''We just couldn't take a chance. They said he shouldn't go, and I said, 'OK.'''

When asked if Boykin suffered a sprained ankle, Patterson said, "I think so."

Original story:

TCU's star quarterback Trevone Boykin took a sack early in the second quarter against Kansas and appeared to suffer an ankle injury.

Boykin's right leg bent awkwardly as he slipped to the ground and was hit. He walked gingerly into the locker room with TCU's training staff after getting off the field. He was replaced at quarterback by senior Bram Kohlhausen. Coach Gary Patterson confirmed at halftime he would not return to the game.

Boykin, who was still part of the Heisman conversation coming into Week 11, entered the game third in the country in passing yards per game (374.8) and fourth in touchdown passes (29).

Kohlhausen has only thrown 13 passes this season, completing nine for 135 yards and one touchdown.
