Timberwolves' Jaden McDaniels: Sniffs double-double in win
McDaniels delivered 17 points (8-11 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 0-0 FT), eight rebounds, an assist and three steals across 29 minutes in Wednesday's 131-106 win over the Heat.
McDaniels opened the campaign with an encouraging combination of scoring, rebounding and defensive production, ending just two boards away from a double-double and also making his presence felt as a defensive asset. His 17 points came on unusually efficient shooting, but maintaining that offensive output could be difficult with Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball commanding significant usage. However, his eight rebounds and three steals highlight the peripheral contributions that can sustain his fantasy value even when his scoring opportunities fluctuate on a per-game basis.

Timberwolves' Jaden McDaniels: Agrees to one-year extension with MIN
McDaniels agreed to a one-year, $40 million extension with the Timberwolves on Monday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
McDaniels will now be under contract with Minnesota through the 2029-30 season, earning $124 million over the life of his deal. The 26-year-old forward could see an uptick in usage this season with Julius Randle no longer around, and he'll be a reliable source of stocks, making him an attractive draft-day target.

Timberwolves' Jaden McDaniels: In line to play Wednesday
McDaniels (rest) is expected to play in Wednesday's regular-season opener against the Heat.
McDaniels and most of the Timberwolves' projected regular-season rotation sat out Friday's preseason finale, though he should be back in the lineup Wednesday. The 26-year-old forward is coming off the best year of his career in 2025-26, averaging 14.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 blocks across 31.7 minutes per contest in 73 regular-season appearances.

McDaniels (rest) won't play in Friday's preseason game against the Bulls, Alan Horton of the Timberwolves Radio Network reports.

Timberwolves' Jaden McDaniels: Drops 22 points in preseason win
McDaniels tallied 22 points (8-12 FG, 4-5 3Pt, 2-2 FT), five rebounds and two assists across 24 minutes in Monday's 122-104 preseason win over the Knicks.
McDaniels was sharp from beyond the arc, knocking down all but one of his attempts from downtown. The forward has converted four triples in back-to-back appearances, with Monday marking his first time eclipsing the 20-point mark in preseason play. McDaniels is coming off a strong 2025-26 regular season in which he averaged 14.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.0 blocks across 73 games. The 26-year-old could see a slight uptick in usage this year with Julius Randle traded to the Nets.

Timberwolves' Jaden McDaniels: Drains four triples
McDaniels finished with 16 points (6-10 FG, 4-6 3Pt), three rebounds, one steal and one block in 21 minutes during Wednesday's 123-112 preseason loss to Indiana.
McDaniels delivered an efficient performance from beyond the arc while contributing defensively. His ability to provide perimeter shooting alongside his usual defensive production should help maintain his value in Minnesota's starting lineup.

Timberwolves' Jaden McDaniels: Sharp in preseason win
McDaniels supplied nine points (4-5 FG, 1-1 3Pt), three rebounds and one assist across 15 minutes in Monday's 116-97 preseason win over the Bucks.
McDaniels looked sharp in Minnesota's preseason opener Monday. With Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball headlining a star-studded Timberwolves' backcourt in 2026-27, McDaniels should find plenty of open looks from beyond the arc after shooting a career-high 41.2 percent from deep last regular season.

Timberwolves' Jaden McDaniels: Could shift to small forward
McDaniels could shift back to small forward following Minnesota's agreement with Jonathan Kuminga.
McDaniels currently sits atop the depth chart at power forward, but Kuminga was reportedly recruited to start at the position alongside McDaniels, Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball and Rudy Gobert. McDaniels' playing time should remain secure due to his defensive versatility, though the additions of Kuminga and Ball could result in fewer offensive opportunities.
