Rockets' Tari Eason: Double-double off bench Friday
Eason posted 11 points (4-12 FG, 0-2 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 13 rebounds, two assists and one steal across 26 minutes off the bench during Friday's 116-111 loss to the Mavericks.
It was the first double-double of the season for Eason, who continues to see a big workload in the frontcourt while Steven Adams (calf) and now Alperen Sengun (back) are on the shelf. Both big men are expected to return in the near future, but Eason's role on the second unit should be fairly secure even when the roster is at full strength. Through six games this season, the fifth-year forward is averaging 10.3 points, 6.7 boards, 1.2 steals and 1.2 blocks in 24.8 minutes a contest.

Eason was strong again Monday, continuing his impressive start to the season. Forgetting about his first game of the season, in which he was ejected, Eason has put up solid averages of 14.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.7 combined steals and blocks over his past three outings. However, much of his recent production has come with other players sidelined, which does raise some concerns regarding his role when the team is healthy. For now, he is a must-roster player, with a likely re-evaluation period coming in the next week.

Assuming he can flirt with 25 minutes on most nights, he should be able to put up backend value in standard league, particularly for those seeking steals.

Since then, the 25-year-old has appeared in 221 regular-season games for Houston, averaging 10.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 0.7 blocks and 1.3 steals over 23.6 minutes. Eason was on the radar of a few teams around the NBA, especially the Lakers. However, he will remain in Houston, where he will likely see most of his minutes off the bench. Eason isn't the most consistent scorer, and injuries have also been an issue. Still, he has value due to his defensive prowess and ability on the glass, which should come in handy for a Rockets team looking to win a championship.
