Ahmed Hassanein: Signs with Detroit
Hassanein (pectoral) was signed to the Lions' practice squad Monday.
Hassanein will return to Detroit after reaching an injury settlement with the team in late August. General manager Brad Holmes said at the time of the settlement that he expected the defensive lineman to return to the team and play this season. The rookie was selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he'll now have the opportunity to get up to speed and potentially make his NFL debut this year.

Ahmed Hassanein: Expected to be back with Detroit
Lions GM Brad Holmes said Thursday that Hassanein (pectoral) will play with Detroit this season following the end of his injury-settlement period, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Hassanein hurt his pectoral in a preseason game Aug. 16 and was waived with an injury settlement Wednesday. However, it sounds like the plan is for Hassanein to rehab the injury and then eventually return to the Lions, who selected him in the sixth round of April's NFL Draft. By reaching an injury settlement with Hassanein instead of placing him on IR, Detroit avoided having to use one of its eight regular-season slots available for designating players who have been moved to IR to return.

Ahmed Hassanein: Waived with injury settlement
The Lions waived Hassanein (pectoral) with an injury settlement Tuesday.
Hassanein suffered a serious pectoral injury during the Lions' preseason game against the Dolphins on Aug. 16. The rookie sixth-rounder will look to join a team in need of depth at defensive end once he's fully recovered from his injury.

Lions' Ahmed Hassanein: Season might be in doubt
Hassanein (pectoral) is likely to be out "for a while," Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports.
Lions coach Dan Campbell could not say definitively whether Hassanein would be able to play this season, per Woodyard. The sixth-round pick out of Boise State suffered the injury during Saturday's preseason game against the Dolphins. Prior to the setback, the edge rusher was fighting for a depth role.

Lions' Ahmed Hassanein: Injured on Saturday
Hassanein suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday's preseason game versus Miami, Richard Silva of the Detroit News reports.
It sounds like Hassanein could miss some time, as coach Dan Campbell said, "Out of the (injuries) we had today, he might be the one that could be a minute. It could be a little bit." Hassanein was a sixth-round pick out of Boise State back in April.

Lions' Ahmed Hassanein: Dealing with leg injury
Hassanein left Monday's training camp practice due to a lower-leg injury, per The Detroit News.
Hassanein was able to walk off the practice field under his own power, and the rookie sixth-rounder indicated after Monday's session that the injury isn't serious. His practice participation in the coming week will shed further clarity on his chances of playing against the Dolphins on Saturday. Hassanein is competing for a depth defensive-end spot on the Lions' 53-man roster.

Lions' Ahmed Hassanein: Lions add fiery Round 6 edge rusher
The Lions selected Hassanein in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, 196th overall.
Hassanein (6-foot-2, 267 pounds) lacks the ideal height and reach (32 and 1/4-inch arms) to play on the edge, but his Boise State production has shown Hassanein has a considerable amount of innate skill at shedding blockers at the point of attack. Hassanein really took off in his third season, at which point he became a three-down starter and raced his way to 22.0 sacks and 32.0 tackles for loss over the next 28 games. As a high-motor grit guy, Hassanein should fit in just fine with the Lions.
