Joseph cleared waivers Tuesday and is now back on the Blue Jays' taxi squad, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Joseph was designated for assignment Friday, but he'll remain in the organization as an emergency option at catcher with just under two weeks remaining in the regular season. The 34-year-old should serve in a depth role even if he's needed on the major-league roster again this year.
