Dennis Santana: Heads to free agency

Santana elected free agency Tuesday, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Santana was designated for assignment Saturday by the Mets and cleared waivers. Rather than accept an outright assignment, he opted to seek a new opportunity. Santana struggled to a 5.91 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across 10.2 innings in the majors this season.
