Dermody was designated for assignment by the Red Sox on Thursday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.
Dermody drew a spot start Thursday against the Guardians and took the loss after allowing three earned runs across four innings. The move to promote the 32-year-old Dermody generated negative reaction and heavy criticism for the Red Sox, as it was learned he posted (and later deleted) a homophobic tweet in 2021, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. He's made 30 big-league appearances since 2016, so it's possible that he sees another chance in the majors this season, either with the Red Sox or another organization.
