Whalen was released by the Mets on Thursday, Michael Mayer of Metsmerizedonline.com reports.
In big-league camp this year as a non-roster camp invitee, Whalen was cut by the team that originally drafted him in the 12th round in 2012. He reached the majors for the first time with the Braves in 2016 and again with the Mariners in 2017 and 2018. The 26-year-old righty has a 5.75 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 36 career MLB innings.
