Tigers manager A.J. Hinch said that Carpenter (back) will be activated from the 60-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Mariners, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
He played four rehab games with Triple-A Toledo and went 3-for-14 with one double and a 5:1 K:BB, and that was evidently enough to convince the Tigers he was ready. Carpenter has been sidelined since late May with a lumbar spine stress fracture. The Tigers might ease him back in with extra days off versus left-handed pitching, but Carpenter is worth scooping back up in fantasy leagues where he was dropped. He posted a .914 OPS with eight home runs in 50 games earlier this season for Detroit before getting hurt.
