The Yankees designated Bard for assignment Wednesday.
New York optioned Bard to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre last week, and now he'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster entirely with the Yankees looking to clear a spot for first baseman Ronald Guzman, who is expected to be called up from Triple-A on Wednesday. After joining the organization on a waiver claim Aug. 5, Bard appeared in just one game out of the big-league bullpen before he was sent back to the minors.
