  • John Rave RF | KC

Royals' John Rave: Go-ahead three-RBI double in win

Rave went 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI in the 9-7 win Wednesday over the Athletics.

Rave came into the game in the fifth inning as a pinch hitter for Jac Caglianone, who left the game with right ankle soreness. In the eighth inning, Rave hit a bases-clearing double off of Drew Rom to give the Royals an 8-5 lead. The 28-year-old outfielder was expected to see a decrease in playing time due to the recent return of first baseman Vinnie Pasquantino (wrist) moving Caglianone back to right field. However, Rave could have an expanded role going forward if Caglianone has to miss time, though the extent of the latter's injury remains unclear.

  • Royals' Jac Caglianone: Lifted with sore ankle

Caglianone was removed from Wednesday's game against the Athletics with right ankle soreness.

Caglianone was hit in the ribs by a pitch in the third inning, but his ankle turned out to be the reason for his removal a couple frames later. It's unclear whether the 23-year-old's injury will be enough to keep him out of Thursday's series finale, but the Royals may provide more information in the near future. John Rave would be next in line to start in right field if Caglianone has to sit.

  • Brett Bateman CF | TOR

Blue Jays' Brett Bateman: Pulled with hamstring tightness

Bateman was removed from Wednesday's game against the Rays due to right hamstring tightness.

Bateman went 0-for-2 before his hamstring forced him out of the game in the fifth inning. The severity of his injury remains unknown, but Myles Straw could be in line to start in center field if Bateman needs to miss any amount of time.

  • Max Clark CF | DET

Tigers' Max Clark: Tallies two hits Wednesday

Clark went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Pirates.

Clark managed a double against Pittsburgh ace Paul Skenes and added another hit for his second multi-hit performance of the three-game series against the Pirates. After a scorching hot start to his MLB career, the rookie outfielder has slowed down a bit recently, but he's still managed a respectable .271/.320/.414 slash line overall across 18 games. Clark should continue to see regular playing time down the stretch for the Tigers, which should prepare him well for an Opening Day role in 2027.

  • Royals' Isaac Collins: Heading to bench Wednesday

Collins is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Collins is slashing just .197/.266/.308 over 129 plate appearances versus lefties this season, so the Royals will keep him on the bench while southpaw Jeffrey Springs toes the rubber for the Athletics. Tyler Tolbert will replace Collins in left field and will bat eighth.

  • Luke Raley RF | SEA

Mariners' Luke Raley: Moved to 60-day IL

The Mariners transferred Raley (forearm) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

The move opens up a spot on the 40-man roster for left-hander Jhonathan Diaz, whose contract was selected from Triple-A Tacoma. The move also means Raley will be sidelined for the rest of the regular season, though he would be eligible to play in the postseason should the Mariners qualify and if he's made a full recovery from his left forearm strain. He'll finish the 2026 campaign with a .225/.284/.439 slash line with 15 home runs, one stolen base, 39 RBI and 28 runs across 287 plate appearances.

  • Tyler O'Neill RF | BAL

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Out of Wednesday's lineup

O'Neill is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Yankees.

After making six straight starts against right-handed pitching, the lefty-swinging O'Neill will take a seat Wednesday for the second consecutive time versus a righty. Pete Alonso will occupy the designated-hitter slot and Leody Taveras will play right field for Baltimore.

  • Taylor Ward RF | SEA

Mariners' Taylor Ward: Drawing back into starting nine as DH

Ward (quadriceps) will start at designated hitter and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers.

A sore quad kept Ward out of the starting nine for each of the previous five games, though he made enough improvement for the Mariners to make him available off the bench Tuesday, per MLB.com. However, with the Mariners falling behind by six runs after five innings in what was ultimately a 22-0 loss, Ward wasn't called upon to pinch hit. He'll be able to return to the lineup Wednesday in a non-defensive role, and assuming his quad responds well, Ward should be ready to resume playing right field in short order.

  • Daulton Varsho CF | HOU

Astros' Daulton Varsho: Getting day off Wednesday

Varsho is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the Angels.

Varsho will get his first day off since he landed with Houston at the trade deadline. He has just six hits in 48 at-bats in his first 13 games for the Astros. Taylor Trammell will shift over to center field, and LaMonte Wade will get the start in left field Wednesday.

  • Brice Matthews CF | HOU

Astros' Brice Matthews: Shifted to 60-day IL

The Astros transferred Matthews (knee) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Ethan Pecko, who was called up from Triple-A Sugar Land ahead of his scheduled start Wednesday against the Angels. Matthews has been on the shelf since July 17 due to a left knee sprain. He had been targeting a return to action for the Astros before the end of the month and had resumed hitting, fielding ground balls and running as of Aug. 8, per MLB.com. However, as a result of his move to the 60-day IL, Matthews won't be eligible for activation until Sept. 12.
