Dodgers' Josue De Paula: Set to join Dodgers

The Dodgers are expected to select De Paula's contract from Double-A Tulsa before Friday's game against Miami, Alden Gonzalez of ESPN.com reports.

Viewed as the top prospect in the Dodgers' farm system, De Paula will skip Triple-A and head straight to the majors after slashing .302/.400/.539 with 26 homers, 101 RBI, 105 runs scored and 31 steals with the Drillers. The 21-year-old will help to bolster the Dodgers' corner-outfield depth but could immediately slot into the big club's starting nine if Shohei Ohtani (knee/biceps/neck) requires a stint on the IL.

  • Pirates' Esmerlyn Valdez: Homer in win

Valdez went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in the win Wednesday against the White Sox.

The rookie outfielder got the start in right field but got pulled for pinch runner Billy Cook in the seventh. Valdez kicked off the scoring with a long ball off Davis Martin in the fifth to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead that they never looked back on. The 22-year-old has not hit well in his last 30 games, batting .178 with three homers and 11 RBI and a 40 percent strikeout rate in 101 at-bats, though he still has an .865 OPS for the season thanks to his power binge earlier in the summer.

  • Owen Caissie RF | MIA

Marlins' Owen Caissie: Goes deep in Wednesday's loss

Caissie went 2-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and an additional run scored during the Marlins' 15-14 loss to the Mets on Wednesday.

Caissie helped the Marlins pull out of an early 8-0 deficit with a solo home run in the sixth inning before tacking on an RBI single in the eighth. It was the 24-year-old outfielder's first home run since Aug. 13 against the Pirates and 14th of the season. Caissie has a .699 OPS with five steals and 57 RBI over 328 plate appearances this year.

  • Jakob Marsee CF | MIA

Marlins' Jakob Marsee: Stays hot at plate

Marsee went 4-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored during the Marlins' 15-14 loss to the Mets on Wednesday.

Wednesday's contest was a high-scoring affair, with Marsee tying a season high in both hits and RBI that included a one-run single in the ninth to cut the Marlins' deficit to one run. The 25-year-old center fielder has logged at least two hits in each of his last four games, going 11-for-18 with four RBI in that span. Marsee has a .682 OPS with 22 steals, nine home runs and 36 RBI across 559 plate appearances this season.

  • Padres' Jackson Merrill: Massive day in win

Merrill went 4-for-5 with two home runs, a triple and six total RBI in Wednesday's 9-2 win over the Nationals.

Merrill powered the San Diego offense in Wednesday's victory, as he drove in six of their nine runs while launching his 23rd and 24th homers this season, matching his career high. Merrill's now gone 7-for-12 with four extra-base hits in his last three games after an 0-for-13 stretch. Overall, he's slashing .245/.295/.431 with 79 RBI, 74 runs scored and 25 steals across 600 plate appearances this year.

  • Jordan Walker RF | STL

Cardinals' Jordan Walker: Receiving day off Wednesday

Walker is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest in San Francisco.

It's the first time Walker has been out of the Cardinals' lineup since he missed two games in early August with a minor knee injury. Joshua Baez will shift over to right field, and Bryan Torres will handle left field as St. Louis looks to avoid the sweep.

  • Corbin Carroll RF | ARI

Diamondbacks' Corbin Carroll: Set for imaging on back

Carroll will be held out of the lineup again Wednesday in Kansas City and is scheduled to undergo imaging on his lower back Thursday when the Diamondbacks return home, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Carroll hasn't started a game since Sunday, though he did appear off the bench during Monday's game versus the Royals. The Diamondbacks are idle Thursday before beginning a homestand against the Rangers on Friday. Once the imaging results are in, more should be known about whether Carroll could return to action this weekend.

  • Diamondbacks' Lourdes Gurriel: Knocks in winning run

Gurriel entered Tuesday's game as a pinch hitter and went 1-for-3 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored in a 5-3 extra-innings win over Kansas City.

After grounding out as a pinch hitter, Gurriel stayed in the game at designated hitter, replacing Lars Nootbaar. Gurriel eventually knocked in the game-winning run with an RBI triple in the top of the 11th inning. The 32-year-old, who was activated from the injured list at the beginning of the month but didn't start getting into the games until this week. is part of a mix vying for starts in left field or DH.

Hernandez extended his hitting streak to nine games, a span in which he has gone 16-for-32 (.500) with six extra-base hits and 12 RBI. The outfielder looks to be making up for a mediocre performance over much of the rest of the campaign with a strong September. He's now batting .266 with a .756 OPS through 109 contests -- those marks were at .248 and .714 at the end of July. Hernandez has added 13 home runs, 56 RBI, 56 runs scored, four stolen bases, 17 doubles and two triples this year.

McCray went 1-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Cardinals.

McCray hadn't stolen a base since Aug. 3 versus the Rangers. The reserve outfielder continues to see a part-time role, primarily working in the corner outfield when he gets starts. Over 74 plate appearances, he's batting just .148 with a .563 OPS, two home runs, five steals, three RBI, 11 runs scored, one double and one triple.
