Chris Sale SP | ATL
Braves' Chris Sale: Closes out Wild Card Series
Sale pitched 1.1 scoreless innings to close out Atlanta's victory over Philadelphia in Game 3 of the NL Wild Card Series on Thursday. He allowed one hit and no walks while striking out three.
Sale threw 95 pitches during Atlanta's Game 1 win, and he returned to the mound only two days later to eliminate the division-rival Phillies. The veteran left-hander induced five whiffs on 21 pitches Thursday as he made just his second relief appearance since the 2018 playoffs, when he worked out of the bullpen twice during Boston's World Series run. Even without the relief appearance, Sale would have been on short rest to start Game 1 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Saturday, which makes him a logical candidate to pitch Sunday in Game 2, especially since that would still him up for a potential winner-take-all Game 5.

Brandon Marsh LF | PHI
Phillies' Brandon Marsh: Exiting lineup for Game 3
Marsh is absent from the lineup Thursday in Game 3 of the wild-card series versus Atlanta.
Atlanta is going with a lefty opener in Ray Kerr, so the left-handed-hitting Marsh will begin the contest on the bench. Right-hander Grant Holmes is expected to handle bulk relief Thursday, and Marsh is a good bet to enter the game at some point after Holmes takes over. Bryan De La Cruz is starting in left field for the Phillies in Game 3.

Edmundo Sosa LF | PHI
Phillies' Edmundo Sosa: Back in lineup for Game 3
Sosa (groin) will start at third base and will bat seventh Thursday in Game 3 of the wild-card series in Atlanta.
Sosa had to leave Game 2 on Wednesday after aggravating a groin injury that he initially suffered Sunday. While he is surely well less than 100 percent, Sosa will attempt to play through the injury. He's gone 2-for-6 with a double and a 0:1 BB:K in his first two games of the postseason.

Ha-seong Kim SS | ATL
Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Absent from Game 3 lineup
Kim is not in the lineup for Thursday's Game 3 of the wild-card series against the Phillies.
Kim started at shortstop in the first two games of the series, going 0-for-3 with a 1:2 BB:K. Atlanta is turning to Mauricio Dubon at shortstop in place of Kim, while Mike Yastrzemski plays left field and Dominic Smith serves as the designated hitter.

Sean Murphy C | ATL
Braves' Sean Murphy: Exiting starting lineup
Murphy is not in the lineup Thursday for Game 3 of the wild-card series against the Phillies.
Murphy started Game 2 for Atlanta, but he didn't play Game 1 and will begin Game 3 on the bench. Drake Baldwin will do the catching, and Dominic Smith is getting a start at designated hitter.

Brian Curley SP | ARI
Cardinals' Brian Curley: Traded to Cardinals
The Diamondbacks traded Curley to the Cardinals on Thursday.
Curley will become the player to be named later in the trade that sent Lars Nootbaar to Arizona at the deadline in August. Curley, 23, split his time between High-A and Double-A in 2026 and posted a 5.35 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 130:34 K:BB across 116 innings between the two levels. He'll presumably remain at Double-A upon joining his new organization, though he'll likely need to show drastic improvement in 2027 before he moves up to Triple-A.

Walker Jenkins CF | MIN
Twins' Walker Jenkins: Undergoes minor elbow surgery
Jenkins underwent right elbow debridement surgery Wednesday, Bobby Nightengale of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports.
The procedure involved a debridement of the joint, as well as the removal of a bone chip and bone spur. Jenkins is expected to be ready to go for the beginning of spring training. The 21-year-old outfielder went 4-for-45 in his first 16 games for the Twins this season but closed the year with a 1.015 OPS and three home runs over his final 10 contests. Jenkins should enter the 2027 campaign as one of the team's starting outfielders.

Jared Young 1B | NYM
Mets' Jared Young: Recovering well
Young (concussion) is expected to have a relatively normal offseason and be ready for the start of spring training, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Young suffered a concussion and had to be stretchered off the field as a result of a Sept. 17 collision with teammate Nolan McLean. He's still experiencing concussion symptoms and hasn't regained all of his hearing yet, but Young has been progressing steadily and doesn't expect any long-term effects. The 31-year-old Young should be in the mix for playing time between first base and designated hitter with the Mets in 2027.

Colin Holderman RP | CLE
Guardians' Colin Holderman: Slated for wrist surgery
Holderman will undergo season-ending surgery on his right wrist, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.
Holderman's wrist problems originally surfaced four years ago and flared up on him during the second half of this season. He will not pitch for the Guardians during the postseason but should be recovered in time for spring training. Holderman posted a 1.78 ERA and 39:11 K:BB over 35.1 innings in the first half of the season, but he stumbled to a 4.67 ERA and 11:9 K:BB over 17.1 frames after the All-Star break.
