Porter is dealing with a nerve issue in his back that could cause him to miss significant time, Mike Singer of The Denver Post reports.

Porter hasn't played since Nov. 6, and up until this point, the Nuggets haven't been forthcoming with details surrounding his absence. The 23-year-old has a history of back injuries -- he's already undergone a pair of surgeries -- and this latest issue could result in another procedure, per Singer. The Nuggets remain hopeful that Porter can avoid that path, and thus far in his rehab, he's been focusing on strength training. Denver reportedly intends to give Porter one more week to demonstrate tangible progress before "other treatment options" are considered. At this point, Porter's outlook is unclear, and even if he avoids surgery, he doesn't appear as though he'll be back on the floor for the Nuggets anytime soon. If he were to undergo surgery, his brief 2021-22 season would almost certainly be over. Porter has appeared in only nine games thus far, with Sunday's loss to Phoenix marking his eighth consecutive absence.
