Bacon signed a two-year contract with the Magic on Friday, Vincent Goodwill of Yahooreports. Bacon struggled last season with the Hornets, averaging 5.7 points and shooting an abysmal 34.8 percent from the field, 28.4 percent from three and 66.0 percent from the free-throw line. His shooting was much worse than the year prior, where he shot 47.5 percent from the field, 43.7 percent from three and 73.9 percent from the free-throw line. Bacon will look to get back on track with the Magic, but he likely won't have a significant role with the team. He's never seen more than 17.7 minutes per game in a season.
Bacon says his best option is to "go somewhere else" as a free agent, Rick Bonnell of The Charlotte Observer reports. "Maybe I'm not meant for this [Hornets] organization or maybe they don't want me. I don't know," said Bacon. Bacon appeared in just 39 games for the Hornets this season, averaging 5.7 points on 6.3 shots, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.6 minutes. He also appeared in nine G League games, where he averaged 31.8 points on 24.9 shots, 8.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 38.6 minutes. There's clearly a massive gap between his G League usage and performance and NBA usage and performance, which could not be bridged. It's unclear how much interest other teams have given how unproven Bacon is across his first three seasons.
Bacon was recalled by the Hornets ahead of Monday's tilt with Atlanta. Bacon will return to Charlotte after a lengthy stint in the G League. Across 39 appearances this season, the 24-year-old's provided 5.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 17.6 minutes per game.
Bacon amassed 23 points (8-25 FG, 1-7 3Pt, 3-4 FT), six rebounds, two assists and one steal in 37 minutes Monday against Long Island. It was the first time during his G League tenure this year, that Bacon's failed to score at least 40 points. While it was disappointing, it was likely simply an off day for the 24-year-old. He'll look to bounce back Wednesday against Westchester.
Bacon totaled 40 points (15-29 FG, 3-11 3Pt, 4-5 FT), 12 rebounds and one assist in 42 minutes during Saturday's loss to the Go-Go. Bacon's eclipsed 40 points in each of his three G League outings, including a 51-point game in his season debut after being demoted. However, with rare exceptions, we haven't seen anything like that from him at the NBA level yet.
