Falcons' Jacob Tamme: Headed for free agency

Tamme (shoulder) doesn't appear to be in the Falcons' plans for 2017, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. "Jacob will more than likely get to free agency," general manager Thomas Dimitroff said.

Operating as Atlanta's starting tight end, Tamme racked up his highest touchdown total since 2010 last season despite appearing in just eight games due to a shoulder injury. However, he's entering his age-32 campaign, while the Falcons have a younger and cheaper alternative in the form of last year's talented third-round selection, Austin Hooper. Although it isn't clear what kind of market awaits the veteran tight end coming off shoulder surgery, Tamme still looked to have something left in the tank before succumbing to injury, so he shouldn't have a problem finding a new home this offseason if and when he can prove his health.
