San Jose put Peterson on waivers Friday, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.
Peterson scored two goals and eight points in 12 contests between Dallas and San Jose last season. He also had 14 goals and 32 points in 52 AHL outings between Texas and the Barracuda. Peterson will likely head back to the Barracuda if he clears waivers.
