It was 31 years ago Tuesday that then Cubs manager Lee Elia grew wings and soared to previously untouched rhetorical heights. (Yes, it's Wednesday as I write this, but the point is that there's never a bad time to celebrate the artful use of naughty words.)
It was April 29, 1983, and Mr. Elia, following a 4-3 home loss to the Dodgers that dropped his squad to 5-14 on the year, was about to hold forth on the dissatisfied masses that had thronged to Wrigley Field for some day baseball.
Let us drink deeply of his timeless, heaven-kissed words ...
