Yankees pitcher David Phelps allowed one earned run on five hits and one walk while striking out two in 2 2/3 innings in Tuesday's spring matchup with the Yankees.
Phelps is gunning for a spot in the team's rotation this spring and has started things off with two solid outings, including his four-strikeout, two-inning debut last week. He went 6-5 with a 4.98 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 79:35 K:BB ratio in 86 2/3 innings over 22 games (12 starts) last season.
