The Indians are believed to still be in talks with second baseman Jason Kipnis regarding a multiyear extension, the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports.
Kipnis, who is not yet eligible for arbitration, agreed to a one-year deal with the team Monday. The team is also looking to extend pitcher Justin Masterson, and it may be difficult to put two long-term extensions on the books at the same time. With Kipnis a long time away from reaching free agency, the team has no reason to rush into a multiyear deal if the circumstances aren't right.
