Perhaps lost in the shuffle of Jake Arrieta's no-hitter was the story of Cubs catcher David Ross.

The 15-year veteran catcher is so beloved in the Cubs' locker room -- and it's far from the first team locker room to love Ross -- that he's lovingly referred to as "Grandpa Rossy."

As alluded to above, Ross has long been one of the more well-liked players in MLB locker rooms for some time. He's also well-respected as a worker behind the plate. Most pitchers love throwing to him. In fact, one of the main reasons the Cubs brought him in was to portray Jon Lester's "personal catcher."

It's also Ross' final season in the bigs, as he'll retire at season's end. He had never caught a no-hitter, either, until Thursday night. Observe his reaction here, as he seems more excited than Jake Arrieta:

What's real cool there is when Ross gets his own little mob around the 32-second mark. Keep an eye on him toward the top-left of the video as the focus, rightfully, remains mostly on Arrieta. It's obvious how happy the team is for Ross as well as the pitcher who just fired the no-hitter. Just check out the bath Ross himself got:

In his on-air interview after the game, Arrieta said that Ross was saying, over and over, "thank you" in Arrieta's ear as they embraced following Arrieta's feat.

You know what else Arrieta said?

"That's probably what makes it most special for me."

More:

Telling.

Past that, Ross previously had only one home run as a Cubs player in 200 plate appearances and he went yard on Thursday (MLB.com video).

In all, this was obviously Jake Arrieta's night, but it was a pretty special night for David Ross as well.

It was a special night for both Arrieta and Ross.
