Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia recently told ESPN.com that he'll try to convince free agent outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury to re-sign with Boston this offseason. He mentioned that a text from Ellsbury back in April compelled him to hold off surgery on the torn ligament in his thumb.

"Jacoby loves playing in Boston," Pedroia said. "There's this misconception out there that all he wanted to do this year was maximize his value so he could go somewhere else. That's not fair. He's been a great teammate, a huge part of our team. I'll be really happy if I show up to spring training and see him there."

After battling injuries in 2012, Ellsbury bounced back to hit .298 with nine homers and an MLB-leading 52 steals in 2013.
