Grichuk is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels.
Grichuk will hit the bench after starting in each of the Yankees' last three games, the past two of which came against southpaws. He had been hitless on the season heading into Tuesday's 7-1 loss before breaking through with an eighth-inning double off Reid Detmers. Grichuk is likely to be limited to a short-side platoon role moving forward.

Yankees' Randal Grichuk: Added to big-league roster
The Yankees selected Grichuk's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
Grichuk didn't do much this spring as a non-roster invitee, but it had always been expected that he would head north with the big club. He will mostly operate in a reserve role but will see some starts against left-handed pitching.

Yankees' Randal Grichuk: Breaking camp with big club
Manager Aaron Boone announced Saturday that Grichuk will be on the Yankees' Opening Day roster, Randy Miller of NJ.com reports.
Grichuk hasn't performed very well in spring training, going just 2-for-16 at the dish while striking out six times, but he'll open the season as bench depth for the Yankees' outfield unit. Most of his opportunities in the Bronx will likely come against left-handed starters.

Yankees' Randal Grichuk: Signs NRI deal with Yankees
Grichuk signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Wednesday and was invited to spring training, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
Grichuk turned in one of the worst seasons of his career last year, slashing .228/.273/.401 with 27 RBI and 35 runs scored across 293 plate appearances between Arizona and Kansas City. The Yankees have been searching for a right-handed bat to play in the outfield, though the 34-year-old will first need to earn a spot on the 40-man roster.

Randal Grichuk: Declines mutual option
Grichuk became a free agent Monday after declining his mutual option for 2026.
He'll receive a $3 million buyout and return to free agency. Grichuk slashed just .206/.267/.299 across 43 games for Kansas City after being acquired at the trade deadline. The 34-year-old was not as productive against left-handed pitching in 2025 (.703 OPS) as he was in 2024 (.913 OPS), though he did homer seven times in 183 plate appearances versus southpaws this season. The right-handed-hitting Grichuk could land a gig this offseason as a short-side platoon bat.

After being acquired from the Diamondbacks on July 26, Grichuk initially appeared set to get a look as a full-time player in Kansas City, but he may have fallen back into a short-side platoon role since the Royals traded for the lefty-hitting Mike Yastrzemski on Thursday. The right-handed-hitting Grichuk will be on the bench Monday for a third straight matchup versus a right-handed pitcher (Brayan Bello), as the Royals counter with a left-handed-hitting designated hitter (Adam Frazier) and an all-lefty outfield featuring John Rave, Kyle Isbel and Yastrzemski from left to right.

The Royals' recent trade pickup launched his first home run with the team Monday, taking Dylan Lee deep in the eighth inning. Grichuk has hit safely in each of his first two games with Kansas City, going 3-for-9 with Monday's solo shot. The veteran sports just a 5.2 percent walk rate, but he represents a solid infusion of power considering his .467 slugging percentage over 72 games this season. In the short term, he's filling in as the primary right fielder while rookie Jac Caglianone (hamstring) is out and has the flexibility to play other outfield spots or serve as the designated hitter once Caglianone returns.

Royals' Randal Grichuk: Moving to American League
Arizona traded Grichuk to the Royals on Saturday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Per Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Diamondbacks are getting minor-league reliever Andrew Hoffmann in return.
Grichuk started in right field for the Diamondbacks against Pittsburgh on Saturday but was pulled after two at-bats and was subsequently seen hugging teammates in the dugout. He posted a modest .742 OPS over 70 contests with the Diamondbacks while collecting seven home runs and 22 RBI. Grichuk has pounded as many as 31 homers in an MLB season and could provide a power boost for the Royals, who rank 29th in MLB with 85 long balls on the campaign. His addition could be especially timely if Jac Caglianone, who suffered a hamstring injury Saturday, needs to miss time.

Grichuk has logged a pair of three-hit efforts over his last five games. The veteran outfielder has received a steadier run of playing time in this series versus Houston, a team with a left-handed-heavy rotation. Grichuk should be in the lineup again Wednesday versus southpaw Brandon Walter. For the season, Grichuk is now at a .249/.286/.473 slash line with seven home runs, 22 RBI, 25 runs scored and no stolen bases across 182 plate appearances, primarily in a short-side platoon role.

Grichuk went 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs and three RBI in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Angels.
The veteran outfielder kept Arizona in the game, launching a two-run shot to left field off Tyler Anderson in the second inning before tying things up at 5-5 in the eighth by crushing a Reid Detmers slider over the center-field wall for a solo blast. It was Grichuk's first multi-homer performance since last September, and he's finding his groove heading into the All-Star break -- four of his seven long balls on the season have come in his last 10 games.

Grichuk, who typically starts against lefties only, made a second start against a right-hander (Nick Pivetta) since Pavin Smith (oblique) landed on the 10-day injured list. The lefty-batting Jake McCarthy was in the original starting lineup as the DH but moved to center field to cover for Thomas. Grichuk could see additional opportunities while Smith and Thomas are unavailable.
