  • Reds' Colin Moran: Remaining at Triple-A

Moran cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Louisville on Tuesday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Moran was designated for assignment by Cincinnati but will remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 29-year-old was sent to Louisville in mid-June after posting a .210/.299/.360 slash line in 37 games for the Reds.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Optioned to Triple-A

Moran (head) was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Monday, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Moran hasn't played since colliding with the Cardinals' Dylan Carlson on Saturday, but he was cleared of a concussion. The fact that he was optioned rather than placed on the injured list seemingly indicates he's healthy. His role was set to be reduced even if he remained on the roster, as Mike Moustakas returned from the COVID-19 injured list Monday.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Avoids concussion

Moran isn't dealing with a concussion after exiting Saturday's game against St. Louis with a head injury, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Moran left the game after colliding with Dylan Carlson. He didn't start Sunday's series finale, but he isn't an everyday starter, so it's unclear to what extent his absence is injury-related.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Exits after collision

Moran left Saturday's game against the Cardinals with a head injury, John Denton of MLB.com reports. Dylan Carlson banged his chin on Moran's head, and while Carlson stayed in, Moran had to exit. Alejo Lopez replaced him with Brandon Drury sliding over to first base.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Recalled from Triple-A

Moran was called up from Triple-A Louisville on Thursday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. After being sent down to Louisville on Friday, Moran will return to the Reds ahead of their series finale versus the Diamondbacks. He will start at first base and bat seventh in the contest.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Optioned to Triple-A

Moran was optioned to Triple-A Louisville on Friday. The 29-year-old had a hot stretch in early May in which he homered four times over four games, but he lost out on consistent playing time after Joey Votto was reinstated from the COVID-19 injured list last week. Moran should see more consistent at-bats in the minors and should be one of the top candidates for a call-up if one of the Reds' corner infielders gets hurt.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: On bench Wednesday

Moran is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Even with right-hander Kyle Hendricks taking the hill for the Cubs, the lefty-hitting Moran will find himself on the bench for the penultimate game of the series. Moran should still play against right-handed pitching more often than not until Jonathan India (hamstring) returns from the injured list.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Sits against southpaw

Moran is out of the lineup for Sunday's game in Toronto. Toronto is bringing lefty Yusei Kikuchi to the hill for the series finale, so the lefty-hitting Moran will retreat to the bench as the Reds stock up on extra right-handed bats. Joey Votto's recent return from the COVID-19-related injured list blocks Moran's path to playing time at first base moving forward, but Moran could see steady work against right-handed pitching either while playing third base or serving as a designated hitter.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Belts fourth homer

Moran went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, three RBI and three runs during Wednesday's 14-11 win against the Brewers. The 29-year-old didn't hit a home run through his first 19 games of the season, but he now has four long balls and 12 RBI across across the past four contests. Moran had a .463 OPS for the season prior to this four-game stretch, and he's managed to improve his slash line to .215/.289/.431.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Collects six RBI

Moran went 2-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Pirates. Moran gave the Reds the lead with a grand slam off of Heath Hembree in the sixth inning. He later added a two-run shot in the eighth to provide a couple of insurance runs. It was the 29-year-old's first two homers of the year and he improved his season slash line to .208/.274/.340 with 15 RBI.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Filling in for Votto

Moran will start at first base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers. He'll pick up his second start in a row at first base following Joey Votto's placement on the COVID-19 injured list earlier this week. So long as Votto is out, the lefty-hitting Moran should be a mainstay in the lineup versus right-handed pitching, but the Reds could choose to go with another at first base when lefties are on the mound for the opposition.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: On bench versus lefty

Moran is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies. Moran finds himself on the bench for the third consecutive game, this time against Colorado lefty Kyle Freeland. Brandon Drury will start at the hot corner Sunday for the Reds.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Sits again Saturday

Moran remains on the bench for Saturday's game against the Rockies. Moran finds himself on the bench against a righty for the second game in a row, as he'll sit here against Chad Kuhl. Mike Moustakas gets the start at the hot corner.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Not starting Friday

Moran will sit Friday against the Rockies. Moran finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games, a stretch that follows a run of seven straight starts. His absence here against Antonio Senzatela marks his first time on the bench against a righty in two weeks. Brandon Drury will get the start at third base.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Takes seat versus lefty

Moran is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres. With a southpaw (MacKenzie Gore) on the hill for San Diego, the lefty-hitting Moran will exit the lineup while the righty-hitting Matt Reynolds gets a turn at third base. Moran had manned the hot corner for each of the previous seven games, going 6-for-23 with a double, two walks and four RBI. He should continue to handle a large-side platoon role at the position while Mike Moustakas (biceps) remains on the injured list.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Filling in for injured Moustakas

Moran will start at third base and bat seventh Wednesday against the Padres. Moran looks like he'll serve as the Reds' everyday third baseman for at least the short term after Mike Moustakas (biceps) was moved to the 10-day injured list Tuesday. He'll pick up his third consecutive start at the hot corner after going 0-for-6 with two walks in losses to San Diego in the first two games of the series.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Still not starting

Moran isn't starting Saturday's game against Atlanta. Moran didn't appear in either of the Reds' first two games of the season, and he'll remain out of the lineup Saturday, even with right-hander Kyle Wright starting for Atlanta. Even with the introduction of the universal designated hitter, it doesn't appear as though Moran will be in line for significant playing time to begin the season.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Remains on bench

Moran remains on the bench for Friday's game against Atlanta. Moran being on the bench against lefty Max Fried on Thursday was no surprise, but the fact that he'll remain there against righty Charlie Morton on Friday suggests that he may not be in line for much playing time to start the season. Tyler Naquin will serve as the designated hitter this time around.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Not in starting nine

Moran isn't starting Thursday's game against Atlanta. Moran should see a fair amount of playing time as the designated hitter this season, but he'll be out of the lineup for Opening Day with lefty Max Fried pitching for Atlanta. Mike Moustakas will serve as the DH while Brandon Drury starts at third base Thursday.

  • Reds' Colin Moran: Signs with Cincinnati

Moran signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Reds on Thursday. Moran spent the last four seasons with the Pirates, and he'll remain in the NL Central for the 2022 campaign. He appeared in 99 games for Pittsburgh in 2021 and hit .258 with 10 home runs, 50 RBI and 29 runs. Cincinnati has Joey Votto and Mike Moustakas as corner infielders, but the introduction of the universal designated hitter in 2022 should allow Moran to see fairly regular at-bats.
