Reds' Colin Moran: Belts fourth homer
Moran went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, three RBI and three runs during Wednesday's 14-11 win against the Brewers.
The 29-year-old didn't hit a home run through his first 19 games of the season, but he now has four long balls and 12 RBI across across the past four contests. Moran had a .463 OPS for the season prior to this four-game stretch, and he's managed to improve his slash line to .215/.289/.431.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Colin Moran: Collects six RBI
Moran went 2-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI in Sunday's 7-3 win over the Pirates.
Moran gave the Reds the lead with a grand slam off of Heath Hembree in the sixth inning. He later added a two-run shot in the eighth to provide a couple of insurance runs. It was the 29-year-old's first two homers of the year and he improved his season slash line to .208/.274/.340 with 15 RBI.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Colin Moran: Filling in for Votto
Moran will start at first base and bat fifth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers.
He'll pick up his second start in a row at first base following Joey Votto's placement on the COVID-19 injured list earlier this week. So long as Votto is out, the lefty-hitting Moran should be a mainstay in the lineup versus right-handed pitching, but the Reds could choose to go with another at first base when lefties are on the mound for the opposition.... Reds' Colin Moran: On bench versus lefty
Moran is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.
Moran finds himself on the bench for the third consecutive game, this time against Colorado lefty Kyle Freeland. Brandon Drury will start at the hot corner Sunday for the Reds.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Colin Moran: Sits again Saturday
Moran remains on the bench for Saturday's game against the Rockies.
Moran finds himself on the bench against a righty for the second game in a row, as he'll sit here against Chad Kuhl. Mike Moustakas gets the start at the hot corner.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Colin Moran: Not starting Friday
Moran will sit Friday against the Rockies.
Moran finds himself on the bench for the second time in three games, a stretch that follows a run of seven straight starts. His absence here against Antonio Senzatela marks his first time on the bench against a righty in two weeks. Brandon Drury will get the start at third base.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Colin Moran: Takes seat versus lefty
Moran is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Padres.
With a southpaw (MacKenzie Gore) on the hill for San Diego, the lefty-hitting Moran will exit the lineup while the righty-hitting Matt Reynolds gets a turn at third base. Moran had manned the hot corner for each of the previous seven games, going 6-for-23 with a double, two walks and four RBI. He should continue to handle a large-side platoon role at the position while Mike Moustakas (biceps) remains on the injured list.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Colin Moran: Filling in for injured Moustakas
Moran will start at third base and bat seventh Wednesday against the Padres.
Moran looks like he'll serve as the Reds' everyday third baseman for at least the short term after Mike Moustakas (biceps) was moved to the 10-day injured list Tuesday. He'll pick up his third consecutive start at the hot corner after going 0-for-6 with two walks in losses to San Diego in the first two games of the series.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Colin Moran: Still not starting
Moran isn't starting Saturday's game against Atlanta.
Moran didn't appear in either of the Reds' first two games of the season, and he'll remain out of the lineup Saturday, even with right-hander Kyle Wright starting for Atlanta. Even with the introduction of the universal designated hitter, it doesn't appear as though Moran will be in line for significant playing time to begin the season.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Colin Moran: Remains on bench
Moran remains on the bench for Friday's game against Atlanta.
Moran being on the bench against lefty Max Fried on Thursday was no surprise, but the fact that he'll remain there against righty Charlie Morton on Friday suggests that he may not be in line for much playing time to start the season. Tyler Naquin will serve as the designated hitter this time around.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Colin Moran: Not in starting nine
Moran isn't starting Thursday's game against Atlanta.
Moran should see a fair amount of playing time as the designated hitter this season, but he'll be out of the lineup for Opening Day with lefty Max Fried pitching for Atlanta. Mike Moustakas will serve as the DH while Brandon Drury starts at third base Thursday.... See More ... See Less
Reds' Colin Moran: Signs with Cincinnati
Moran signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Reds on Thursday.
Moran spent the last four seasons with the Pirates, and he'll remain in the NL Central for the 2022 campaign. He appeared in 99 games for Pittsburgh in 2021 and hit .258 with 10 home runs, 50 RBI and 29 runs. Cincinnati has Joey Votto and Mike Moustakas as corner infielders, but the introduction of the universal designated hitter in 2022 should allow Moran to see fairly regular at-bats.... See More ... Pirates' Colin Moran: Designated for assignment
Moran was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Monday.
Moran has been a competent hitter throughout parts of five major-league seasons, but his lifetime 99 wRC+, the product of a .267/.329/.418 slash line, isn't good enough for a player who primarily plays first base. He does at least own an above-average 106 career wRC+ against righties, so it's possible he lands somewhere in a platoon role, but he won't be a particularly exciting option wherever he ends up.... Pirates' Colin Moran: Hitting cleanup after four-RBI game
Moran will start at first base and bat cleanup Wednesday against the Cubs.
After going 2-for-2 with a home run, two walks and four RBI in Tuesday's 8-6 win, Moran will be rewarded with a fourth straight start. Expect the 28-year-old to hold down the cleanup spot versus right-handed pitching over the final week of the season.... See More ... See Less
Pirates' Colin Moran: Sits against southpaw
Moran will sit against lefty Ranger Suarez and the Phillies on Saturday.
Moran has now been on the bench against four of the last five left-handers the Pirates have faced. Yoshi Tsutsugo will move in to play first base, with Cole Tucker starting in right field.... See More ... See Less
Pirates' Colin Moran: Blasts ninth homer
Moran went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run in Thursday's 12-6 defeat at the hands of the Phillies.
Moran did his damage early with a leadoff single followed by a run in the second inning and a 432-foot solo home run to right in the third that gave Pittsburgh a 6-0 lead. He'd been struggling of late, going 2-for-27 over his last seven gams, so it was encouraging to see the first baseman break out with a big game.... See More ... See Less
Pirates' Colin Moran: Hitless in Cincinnati
Moran went 0-for-5 with a pair of strikeouts in Tuesday's 6-2 win over the Reds.
He's slashing .175/.279/.246 with one homer and 11 RBI in 68 September plate appearances. Even with red-hot Yoshi Tsutsugo available to take away playing time at first base, Moran has started 15 of 19 games since August. It's possible Moran is still feeling the effects of a wrist injury that sidelined him in July. Whatever the reason, he hasn't sustained the start that saw him slash .297/.352/.468 through May.... Pirates' Colin Moran: Not starting Saturday
Moran is not in Saturday's lineup against the Marlins, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Moran racked up only three hits in his last 27 at-bats, though he did manage seven RBI in that span. He will hit the bench Saturday with Yoshi Tsutsugo starting at first base and hitting fourth in his place.... See More ... See Less
