Bemboom cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Friday. Bemboom was designated for assignment last weekend but will remain in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. He played in 22 games for Baltimore before being DFA'd and hit .115/.207/.212 in 59 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less

Orioles' Anthony Bemboom: Designated for assignment
Bemboom was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Saturday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Bemboom saw sporadic playing time with the Orioles, and he hit just .115 with a homer, two doubles, four runs and an RBI over 22 games. He'll lose his spot on the 40-man roster after Adley Rutschman's contract was selected Saturday.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Anthony Bemboom: Knocks first homer
Bemboom went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Cardinals. Bemboom hasn't done much with his playing time as backup to Robinson Chirinos. The home run Thursday was Bemboom's first of the season, and he's added two doubles among his six hits. It accounted for his first RBI as well. The catcher is slashing .140/.229/.256 through 49 plate appearances.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Anthony Bemboom: Gets start in day game
Bemboom will start at catcher and bat eighth in Thursday's game against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. No. 1 backstop Robinson Chirinos started behind the plate in the previous three games, but he'll get Thursday off in what amounts to a routine maintenance day. Chirinos' absence paves the way for Bemboom to enter the lineup for the seventh time this season. The 32-year-old has gone 3-for-20 with a double and three walks on the campaign.... See More ... Orioles' Anthony Bemboom: Wins backup catcher role
Bemboom has made the Orioles' Opening Day roster, Zachary Silver of MLB.com reports. Manager Brandon Hyde has selected Bemboom to be the primary backup at catcher behind Robinson Chirinos to open the season. This marks the first time that the 32-year-old has made an Opening Day roster, largely earning it by posting a .308 average this spring in 13 at-bats. With star prospect Adley Rutschman (triceps) currently unavailable, Bemboom should receive his fair-share of reps early in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Anthony Bemboom: Returns Saturday
Bemboom (illness) went 0-for-2 in Saturday's 14-5 win over the Pirates. Bemboom was sidelined for a couple of days due to an illness, but it was never expected to be a long-term issue. The 32-year-old catcher will continue to compete for a spot on the big-league roster, with Robinson Chirinos, Jacob Nottingham and Beau Taylor also in the mix while Adley Rutschman (triceps) works his way back from injury.... Orioles' Anthony Bemboom: Dealing with illness
Bemboom was scratched from Thursday's Grapefruit Lineup against the Red Sox due to an illness, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. The Orioles didn't initially provide a reason for Bemboom's removal from the lineup, but it's unlikely that his illness will lead to a significant absence. Assuming the illness isn't related to COVID-19, the catcher should be considered day-to-day.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Anthony Bemboom: Removed from lineup
Bemboom was removed from Thursday's Grapefruit League lineup against Boston for an unspecified reason, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. It's not clear whether Bemboom's removal from the lineup was due to an injury, but Beau Taylor will now take over behind the dish and bat ninth. Whether Bemboom is available off the bench remains to be seen.... See More ... See Less -
Orioles' Anthony Bemboom: Lands minor-league contract
Bemboom signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Thursday, Dan Connolly of The Athletic reports. Bemboom spent most of the 2021 season at the Triple-A level and slashed .232/.352/.412 with eight home runs, 37 RBI and 35 runs across 65 games. He appeared in eight major-league games with the Angels and should be in the mix to join the Orioles' active roster at some point in 2022.... See More ... See Less -
Dodgers' Anthony Bemboom: Claimed by Dodgers
Bemboom was claimed off waivers by the Dodgers on Monday. There's been a shuffling of third catchers in Los Angeles. Bemboom was designated for assignment by the Angels on Saturday after the team claimed Chad Wallach off waivers from the Dodgers, but he'll now occupy Wallach's previous role in the Dodgers' organization. His career .178/.241/.287 slash line indicates the Dodgers won't want to use him in anything other than an organizational depth role.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Designated for assignment
Bemboom was designated for assignment by the Angels on Saturday. Bemboom had been serving as a depth option at the Triple-A level, but the Angels evidently like Chad Wallach more in the third-catcher role, as they claimed him off waivers from the Dodgers in a corresponding move. Bemboom is a 31-year-old with a career .178/.241/.287 line in 144 major-league plate appearances, so he's unlikely to be a hot commodity on the waiver wire.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Sent down Thursday
Bemboom was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. Bemboom served as a third option behind the dish recently and went 1-for-8 with a run, an RBI and four strikeouts across two games during his stint with the major-league club. He'll head back to the minors after right-hander Chris Rodriguez (shoulder) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Thursday.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Called up by Angels
Bemboom was recalled by the Angels on Friday. Bemboom will join the Angels as a third option behind the plate while Max Stassi (concussion) remains sidelined. Jose Iglesias (hamstring) was placed on the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Dealing with back issue
Bemboom's back recently "locked up," preventing the catcher from being able to play, Fabian Ardaya of The Athleticreports. This information helps explain why the Angels did not go to Bemboom when starting catcher Max Stassi went on the seven-day injured list Thursday due to a concussion. It's unclear how long Bemboom has been dealing with the bad back or how much longer he'll be on the shelf, but the issue is substantial enough that the Angels traded for veteran Drew Butera on Friday to provide catching depth.... Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Sent to alternate site
Bemboom was optioned to the alternate training site Wednesday. He was serving as the backup catcher while Max Stassi was on the injured list, but with Stassi's activation Wednesday, Bemboom will return to the minors.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Back in majors
Bemboom was recalled prior to Tuesday's game in Kansas City. Max Stassi (sprained thumb) hit the 10-day injured list, so Bemboom is coming up to serve as the No. 2 catcher in the short term while Kurt Suzuki moves atop the depth chart.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Part of team's taxi squad
Bemboom is travelling with the Angels on their current road trip as part of the team's taxi squad, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports. As the presumptive third catcher on the Angels' depth chart, Bemboom will likely be part of the taxi squad often this season. Should either Max Stassi or Kurt Suzuki go down with injury, Bemboom would be the logical replacement on the big-league roster.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Sent down to minors
Bemboom was optioned by the Angels on Wednesday. Bemboom was not expected to break camp with the club and struggled at the plate this spring, slashing .150/.190/.150. He'll open the campaign in the minors with Max Stassi and Kurt Suzuki locked into the top two spots on the team's catching depth chart.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Struggling this spring
Bemboom is slashing .111/.158/.111 across nine Cactus League games. The backstop has struck out only twice in 18 at-bats, but that's about the only positive that can be made of his stat line. Bemboom is third on the Angels' catching depth chart and is likely to open the season in the minors.... See More ... See Less -
Angels' Anthony Bemboom: Hits third homer
Bemboom went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a win over the Padres on Wednesday. Bemboom got the start at catcher and slotted into the eighth spot in the order. He capped a three-homer third inning for the Angels with a solo shot to right field. The 30-year-old is slashing .217/.327/.435 with three homers in 57 plate appearances this season.... See More ...
