  • Rangers' Andy Ibanez: Sent back to Triple-A

Ibanez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Friday. Ibanez was optioned Sunday but returned two days later, only to head back to the minors three days after that. How long he'll be off the roster this time around is not yet clear. He hasn't done much at the plate at the big-league level this season, hitting .218/.273/.277 in 40 games.

  • Rangers' Andy Ibanez: Called up, starting Game 1

The Rangers recalled Ibanez from Triple-A Round Rock on Tuesday. He'll start at third base and bat ninth in the first game of the Rangers' doubleheader with the Guardians. To open up a spot on the 26-man active roster for Ibanez, the Rangers placed reliever Brett Martin on the COVID-19-related injured list. Though Ibanez is receiving a start in his first game back with the Rangers, he's expected to handle a backup role at third base while Texas gives prospect Ezequiel Duran a look at the hot corner.

  • Rangers' Andy Ibanez: Sent to Triple-A

Ibanez was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on Sunday, Levi Weaver of The Athletic reports. This move doesn't come as a major surprise, as Ibanez had starting losing out on playing time and had hit .161 with zero home runs in his last 20 games. Steele Walker's contract was purchased in a corresponding move.

  • Rangers' Andy Ibanez: Losing work to Josh Smith

Ibanez is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays. The righty-hitting Ibanez has the platoon advantage in his favor with southpaw Ryan Yarbrough on the mound, but it won't be enough to keep him off the bench for the second game in a row. Instead, rookie Josh Smith will draw another start at the hot corner after going 3-for-4 with two runs in his MLB debut in Monday's 9-5 win. Ibanez looks like he'll have to settle for a utility gig with the Rangers presumably prepared to give Smith a trial as their everyday third baseman.

  • Rangers' Andy Ibanez: Slated for rest day

Ibanez isn't in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Rays. Ibanez will get the night off after starting the last two contests for Texas, collecting five hits including a pair of doubles and an RBI over that brief stretch. Josh Smith gets the start at the hot corner and will bat eighth with Ibanez on the bench.

  • Rangers' Andy Ibanez: Collects two more hits

Ibanez went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a run scored in Sunday's 6-5 loss to the Atheltics. Ibanez is emerging from a three-week slump and has hit safely in three straight games, going 6-for-9 with two doubles, a walk, three RBI and three runs scored over the last three. The 29-year-old infielder, who posted a .277 average in 76 games during his MLB debut in 2021, is up to .214 through 37 contests this season. Ibanez's expected outcome for average is slightly higher than his real-world results.

  • Rangers' Andy Ibanez: Posts three-hit day

Ibanez started at designated hitter and went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 11-4 win over the Athletics. Fresh off a game-winning two-run single as a pinch hitter Friday, Ibanez kept the momentum going with his first three-hit game of the season. He'd been mired in a deep funk, going 2-for-43 in the 15 games prior to Friday's heroics.

  • Rangers' Andy Ibanez: Delivers game-winning knock

Ibanez went 1-for-1 with a two-run single and scored a run in Friday's 8-5 win over the Athletics. Ibanez, who had just two hits over his previous 43 at-bats (.047), stepped in as a pinch hitter for Eli White in the ninth inning of an even game and delivered a go-ahead two-run single. He later came around to score an insurance run. Ibanez is typically out of the starting lineup against lefties, as was the case Wednesday and Friday. With Oakland southpaw Zach Logue the projected starter Saturday, Ibanez figures to be on the bench for the third time in four games.

  • Rangers' Andy Ibanez: Slump continues

Ibanez started at third base and went 0-for-3 in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Angels. Ibanez is batting just .050 (2-for-40) over 14 games since May 4. Texas third basemen rank last in the majors with a -0.8 WAR, so it's fair wonder when they make a change.
